Hi can some one help ?
I have a bmw r1150GS
just got a y-piece exhaust pipe of ebay :)
I have taken the cat off, but I have a problem with fitting the y piece the bolts that fit to the center stand bracket are missing and the ones from the cat are to long
Can any one suggest where i can two short counter sunk Blots from I live in South Birmingham.

Thanks Bob

Take your bolts with you to any place that sells stainless bolts and tell them you want the same size but shorter... job done!

The OE bolts used to attach the cat to the bracket should also work with the Y-piece. They do on a Remus one anyway. So it's not that the bolts were 'missing', just that they wouldn't be supplied. If you bought something other than a Remus then I suggest you contact the seller - presumably if they manufacture the things they'll have come across this issue before.

I came across a similar problem when fitting a Y-piece to someone's bike.

Unlike with a Remus, the Y-piece wasn't threaded as far inside the mounting bar. The length of the unthreaded shank on the original Cat screws meant that they would thread in and then pass out the end of the threaded section (inside the mounting bar).

As suggested (above), a trip to a bolt supplier locally sourced two counter-sunk screws with a shorter shank.

Those bolts aren't used on later bikes and the R1150RT/RS. The factory done away with them.

Don't worry about it. The Y-piece is much lighter than the catalyst and does not need the extra support. Mine had no bolts into the centre-stand.

Hi, the 'Y' Piece you have bought off ebay is certainly a MOTAD cat replacement. I purchased one two weeks ago and when I came to fix it on the bike, the item came with much smaller bolts, same thread size, just smaller in length, about an inch long. Anyway, I didn't keep the Y piece as it just wouldn't fit onto the down pipes. It was obviously a faulty part. I returned the item to the supplier, claimed a refund and got a new remus. It doesn't always pay to cut corners - you get what you pay for !

Sorry for our mistake at Motad- after selling many of these it looks like a batch was released without being final checked on the jig- SORRY!

Motad is not cheaper because we have "cut corners"- it is a lower price because it is made here in the uk and you are not paying a distributor to bring it into the uk and paying for very expensive euros!

We have not had any recent feedback on any fitting issues and we continue to supply the bolts required for fitting.

'Y' Piece - BMW R1150GS

Thanks to MOTAD for clarification of the fault. The item did represent great value, almost half the price of a Remus, but I was one who received a faulty 'Y' piece and returned it to the supplier.
Anyway - best wishes for the future - it's good to see a British company still going !
