I am connected to net via wifi , and have got the iTunes on laptop . But when I try to use it tells me it's not connected to web , how and where can I look to switch on . Thanks in advance .

I have tried everything to get connected to iTunes , I ran a test last night and got 2 green lights , it says it's in safe mode , what can I do ???? Where can I get this sorted . This is doing my head in .
Like Bryn says, it's not an iTunes issue, your laptop isn't connected to the interweb.
Go to control panel>network sharing centre and you'll be able to see what's going on.

simplest way to test whether you're connected to the internet - open internet explorer, go to google and try a search. If it returns results, your problem is an itunes configuration issue (unlikely), if it doesn't, you have no internet connection (likely).
just because the laptop is connected to the wifi, doesn't mean the wifi is connected to the web!

You could try (in iTunes) help>run diagnostics
I have done a check and only get told that its not connected to web . Losing will to live with this .

Don't use itunes but sounds like possibly a proxy has been set by mistake.

Or possibly your Firewall is blocking it, Google should provide answers on how to bypass the firewall for itunes

Been reading that iTunes won't work with Wndows XP 64 bit . Pointless to keep trying . Any one got another disc set up that will work

Have you tried the 32bit install and the 64bit install (for win7)
I have got XP discs I have tried everything and clicked everything but it won't connect to iTunes . It works great on everything else . Done everything that I can read on Net and no luck for me .
you need 32 bit xp.
