Just got my new Mac and it seems to be the business.

Problem is, I'm an IT numpty and am struggling to even do simple things like save pics!!

Anyone out there who can give me a hand with understanding the basics?

There are various key stroke shortcuts, such as Ctrl+S for save in the Windows world (I'm still learning these myself). However, to start with I suggest you simply use the mouse and the file menus at the top of the screen (e.g. file > save > etc). Depending on your mouse, you can set up a right click to bring up a separate menu for thinks like clicking on pictures to save, or clicking on Finder files to open etc).

If you have a specific question, please post and I'm sure we'll have the answer.

There are a series of books by David Pogue called 'The Missing Manual' (Amazon etc) have a look here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mac-OS-Leop...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222854632&sr=8-1

This will give you everything you ever needed and it's easy to read. Pogue is an acknowledged expert in the field.

Get the version to suit which OSX you have; if you go into the little Apple symbol top left of screen and hit 'About this Mac' it will tell you.

Other useful thing in there (besides quick access to recent files) is the 'System Preferences' pane which acts like control panel in Windows

to save a pic from a website, just drag it onto the desktop :)

go to the Apple support section of their website

its the dogs - video tutorials, discussion areas, downloads etc.

I'll put the Nurofen away and try and sort this thing out.

just play around with it and have patience. it helps if you know someone nearby who knows keyboard shortcuts and can sit for an hour and give you a crash-course. it's all much more intuitive than windows though, so just do things and don't worry about mistakes, they're very forgiving!
