Do a search on this topic and you will find many threads with just as many suggestions as to how to go about it. They range from thrashing the nuts off it from day one, to taking ti very easy. I can't really understand why peeps would want to do anything other than follow the dealer/handbook instructions. Remember also that I believe it may be possible to interrogate the onboard computer and perhaps nullify any warranty claim if things let go in a big way while abusing the bike during the break-in period.
Fully agree with Gipsy, everyone has their own words of wisdom, ran mine in the way I was told by BMW, after all, they should know! If they thought it was better for the engine to ride around at the 6-7k mark, they'ed have put that in their little book.
And I sure that they can access the computer, and what a wonderful excuse to invalidate the warrenty, you takes your chances, you pays the price....
