Help with technical problem

I was out today and stopped for a coffe and put the side stand before i switched the bike off and with it in neutral but suddenly the bike died and flicked 2 nd gear on display but was not in gear? would not start again but did turn over?
I lifted the stand and it fired straight up

anyone any idea's
just come back from pidcocks last week after new front cover and updates????

If the gear indicator said 2nd gear it will not let the bike turn over with side stand down you may have water in the gear selector switch common problem
