After a lot of research, I decided on H&B and eventually ordered the guards on Tuesday from Moto Bins - they arrived on Wednesday! Excellent service!

The finish and quality are very good and I fitted them this afternoon but I am not that happy as the RH guard sticks out further than the LH - probably only a 1/4" but it is really noticeable in relation to the heads. The RH one will offer more protection and you can get your fingers in between the horizontal bars and the head at the RH side but def not at the LH.

Any one else out there with H&B bars have the same problem? I have checked and no, I don't have the spacers in the wrong sides!!

I attach photos to show what I mean.

[Wish I had swept the leaves up from the garage floor!!]

Doesn't seem right... Try sending an email off to H&B with the attached images and get their opinion. I know they are not H&B but my SW Motech bars are not like that.

Don't forget that the heads are not exactly in line one is about 1/2 inch further forward than the other.

After all, who can see both sides of your bike at the same time?

PS Second dibs if they're going cheap, need some for mine and I'm not so fussy :augie

Looks like the Cylinder Heads have been fitted on the wrong sides from new. Is the Bike still under Warranty ?. Seriously though, they look fine to me.

Just checked mine and they are the same. Mine were already fitted when I bought it second hand. Never noticed before.

Finish & Quality looked good when I got mine but watch for corrosion where the middle bar joins the other bars and at the mounts. I fitted H&B bars just over a year now and luckily I have always coated them in WD40 or similar (just as I do with the bike) but have noticed slight paint flaking at joints/mounts which would have been a lot worse if I had not been taking preventative measures.

I can get my fingers in between the horizontal bars and the head on both sides without a problem, though right hand has slightly more room.

When you drop it, (no, I don't say "if") the chances are that it will drop away from you - onto the right side; you will appreciate the extra width that will save damage to your lovely (soft) magnesium covers;

Looked about the same on my bike (04 and now 08). Of course I picked them in black. A lot easier to fix when there is a scratch.

"...A lot easier to fix when there is a scratch..." I have always fitted the standard BW ones in stainless steel; Any scratches can be removed completely with emery.

I dropped my bike today. I hate this stupid side new stand, when you understand that your bike is going down it is already too late as that stupid thing is so close to the ground.
Thanks to my old H&B (and to some extent to my Givi Maxia), I only had a few scratches on the pastic thing that protects my left hand (can't remember the name in English), and on my left mirror.
I feel so dumb.

I wish mine were that shiny, but they saved the bike from a 30mph lowside this month so they are money VERY well spent. The RH guard has ground away a lot as the bike surfed up the road in a shower of sparks, but the rest of the bike looks pristine (except for the RH plastic handlebar guard).

Thanks H&B.:bow

I think you'll find the standard BuMW ones are like this too. The ones on my 08 GSA certainly are. :rob

When I came to move the Touratech cylinder head covers on my 05 GS to my 08 GSA they would fit under the bars on the off side, but not the near side.

try the bm ones...not

The original ones I had were the BMW ones and they were even shorter on one side. Didn't even cover the cylinder head when they were needed!!

Head covers and bars?? Why?

Before all your replies, Moto Bins took the bars back to check in case the ones I had were a 'one off' and sized wrong, but reading your responses, I doubt that! They have yet to contact me.

I was going to go for the SW Motech ones but didn't like the tie bar under the bike but I see that SW have redesigned their bars without the tie bar, so depending what Moto Bins say, might go for SW.
