Round 'n' round in circles.........
Very slowly I am getting totally hacked of with this GPS lark coz every time you do something you have a problem............

So after many times of trying I managed to get to the Garmin site and down load the new V6.3 on to my Mapsource software on the PC, so far so good.

I then erased the current mapset on the data card via the USB Data Card Programmer ready to load the new V6.3 mapset onto it, again so far so good.

Selected the mapset, 36 in total and selected send to device, pop up menu comes up and defaults to the USB Data Card Programer.
Then it started to load the Data card up ok, but it then gets to 73% and this message has now come up:-

There is a problem with the USB Device
Windows Error Code: 31
A device attached to the system is not functioning
Device name: \\.\grmnl200-0
Handle: Valid
Request:82
Buffer:
000:ec f8 50 01
Buffer size:4
Value:0
Index:0

WTF is that all about then??

It would suggest from the first line that the USB Data Card Programmer is not working, but I have only used it three times from new, so surely not that??

Go back here: http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp

Scroll down a bit & make sure you've got the latest USB drivers...if not download & install...this sorts 99% of USB device problems.......if not e-mail tech support @ Garmin and they will talk you through installation &/or e-mail you any latest patches to deal with known operating system conflicts.....

Cheers

The Mapsource v6.3 upgrade is for the Mapsource viewing and loading program only (not the Mapsource maps)

There is no need to reload your GPSr

Thanks for the replys guys. Before I came to work this morning I tried it once again just to see if it would bring up the same error message.

Low and behold............it all worked ok  No messages, nothing, just loaded the new set map on the Data card.

I really cannot get my head around this coz last night I tried several times, logged out and logged back in again. 12 hours later it all works.

I hate 'puters, as they are a bit like women really.........bloody unpredicatable!!

Glad to hear your problem went away. It was entirely a problem with your computer, and had nothing whatsoever to do with your GPSR or with the MapSource program.

In the future, to make your life easier, when you want to upload maps to your data chip, turn your computer off, unplug all the USB devices you have attached to your computer except for the data chip programmer, then start your computer up.

This is normally not necessary, but from reading this post and from what I remember of your previous posts, you don't exactly have exactly the most healthy and trouble-free computer.

Pan,

Once again words of wisdom for which I am forever in your debt.

Just one minor point however, I only have one thing plugged in the USB port and thats the Data Card Programmer. If I recall it was someone else quite recently that had a whole host of extar ports and bits'n'pieces plugged into it.
