turn left over canal to Talybont reserviors, superb views.
carry on to edge or Merthyr Tydfil turn right onto A470 to Brecon.
Back to Hereford or explore Wales, enjoy.

In Hereford, the cafe in the Courtyard on Edgar St is okay http://www.courtyard.org.uk/

A465 to Abergavenny is a cracking road - Oasis cafe in the bus station

Golden Valley road from A465 to Hay via Peterchurch is excellent - cafe next to the Hay tourist office

Ride to Rhayader via Credenhill, Lyonshall & Kington - Ty Morgan's cafe by the war memorial in Rhayader then do a loop around the Elan Valley dams. Also a cafe at Crossgates popular with bikers.

A466 to Monmouth is good - Coffee#1 is my favourite cafe.

try the Steelhorsecafe.co.uk on the a4598 just outside Abbergaveny.

Avoid the cafe at Crossgates, new owners and the food has gone down hill. They also now make bikers remove crash helmets to get fuel at their adjoining petrol stn.

Monmouth to Tintern is a great road and good cafe at the old station outside Tintern.

Great circuit: Hereford > A438 > Ledbury > A449 > Ross on Wye > A40/B4224 > Mitcheldean > A4136\A4227\A4226\B4234 (through the Forest of Dean)> Bream > A4231\A4228 > St. Briavels > Chepstow > B4293 (watch out for police bikes with speed guns as you leave Chepstow)> A466 (through the Wye Valley twisties) > Tintern Abbey > Monmouth > A466\A49 > Hereford

Let me know if you want a TomTom/Garmin route for this ride or more than happy to join you for a ride out while you're over this way. :thumby:

Assuming that circa 200 miles is the sort of day route that you would be looking at, I'd be doing something like this.

Stops at:
Granary Cafe, Hay-on-Wye
Elan Valley Visitor Centre
Machinations, Llanbrynmair
Crossgates, sure, not the greatest cafe but a popular meeting place and conveniently situated.

There are a lot of great options heading West from Hereford, plenty of good roads. The above route is only a selection of my favorites. If you could spare three days you could cover about half of them. Living in Herefordshire has it's advantages :D

As a change to the A466 from Monmouth to Chepstow which is full of slow traffic try the B road we refer to as "over the top" via Devauden and Trellech. If you approach Monmouth from Trellech you will be treated to one of the best views in the Wye Valley as you go through Lydart bends here

+1 for that one, also the over the top run to Abergavenny from Monmouth via the B 4233 through Rockfield.
