Hi Greg, I'm at the Bishops Finger II event, so don't think I'll be able to make this one. Hope ya have a good one - don't forget your spare tube, number plate and spark plug!

I have it penciled in, will comfirm on Saturday 19th.

Is it possable to park a car and trailer there ?
Most motorway services have a 2 hour limit, I'm sure South Mimms will have as well. Greg will have a solution, I'm sure.

We completed most of the proposed route today, three of us on pogos and Clive on his TKC-shod 1200GS.

From South Mimms to Standon ford, it was a fairly easy ride - Dave and Bill bravely riding all the fords. I though that as I was mostly dry, and I'd already ridden through Standon ford, I'd wimp out on that one. I need not have bothered because we then rode the Furneux Pelham ford - not so much a ford as a sequence of lakes! I certainly got wet, not least when that KTM-mounted tosser rode past at high speed, soaking me and my best map in the process!

We found one green lane that I will miss out on next week's run - the going was just too soft for even Clive's well-ridden GS. Plus which, there was a gobby 'jobsworth' who greeted us at the end of the lane and demanded that we clean up the mud that we hadn't yet deposited on the road!

The run, as planned, may also be a bit too long as it currently stands, so I may trim it back a little.

I really doubt that there would be a problem parking at South Mimms, but, if you're worried, park up in South Mimms village and ride back to the service area.

If you need a dump before the rideout, South Mimms won the Crapper of the Year Award 2003 (Transport Section), so you could alway say that you got over indulged with the Sunday Sport in the reading room!

Most of the ride will be suitable for all GSs, but those without TKCs might have to take one or two road detours - bring a map or a GPS.

See you all at South Mimms next Sunday (09.30hrs)

I believe that limit is for "free" parking - should be pay and display after 2 hours.

:D :D :D

It would have been rude not to !!

Thanks for a great days riding. :clap

Certainly do-able on a GS as Clive ably demonstrated. I'd do it on a GS if I had one.

I think stupid would be the correct term for doing all the fords, my boots are still wet. But like the man said, thanks for organising a good days ride.

Dave

Looks like I won't be able to make the 20th in the morning.

Can you send me the route and i might catch up with you mid morning?

On the subject of wet boots, after having sodden feet from splashing through welsh rivers and Herts fords is there a purpose built product out there to stop the water going in over the top of the boots?

Boot gaiters

I think these are like the ones I've seen others using

When i went 'laning' up Yorks moors i saw many people wearing walking gaitors on their boots(yes the riders on KTM's and such like) which i thought would be a good idea although if you aint very competent beware that the footpeg could tear them quite easy when you put your feet down. :thumb

My gloves got filled at the weekend when the KTM-tosser hooned by. Do they do a similar product for one's wrists?

May help you escape the water

Autoroute paints South Mimms as a small dot - down the B556 and I'm looking for what, a petrol station?

I've got some of those Heiniheim german tyre things fitted last week and no idea if I'll survive. Worth a shot anyway :thumb :mcgun

Junction 23 M25 follow signs for services, that will take you to the petrol station.
