HES replacement?

Is there a need for the fancy box with a light in it when replacing the HES to set the timing, as demonstrated on youtube? is there an easier way?

As far as I know, if you carefully mark where the old one was, you don't need the box.

On most HES pates there is a punched hole at the lower centre

That sits at the 6 o'clock position

If it's just the wiring you could get it rewired by 'gsaddict' on advrider.com - so then you could just mark the original hes plate up. He did a bang up job on mine and turned it around pretty quickly.
