Old HES plug has 5 wires.
Replacement HES has 4 wires :blast

The one that's missing is the clear one, described as 'Sheild' in the HES wiring PDF HERE.

The other four wires are present.....

What does this wire do? and will it make any difference to it all?
:nenau

PS 'old' HES was on when bike was running really rough, but is only a thousand miles old.....'New' one is a second hand replacement bought as a good spare, from a reaqr-impacted R bike.

Hmmmmmm.......I might have answered my own question actually.......

Looking at these two pics....

Mine is the same as the top one, complete with the connector type box near the plug....the 'new' one I have is like the lower one, no connector box.

FOR THE 'NEW' ONE :blast

Anyone know if the extra wire can be added, what it does and so on?

I might be able to adapt the 'new' spare one

Don't worry about it - both types can be used. Earlier 1150 models didn't have the inline block but the later ones did.

The 1100 HES doesn't have an "inline block", but you can't confuse the two as the plug is different.

Although the info you've posted is completely wrong, re can be used on all models from 1993 -2006. The HES plug is different between the 1100 and 1150.

So the 'new' type one should work on mine, even though it has 4 wires rather than 5?

When i fitted it, the pump kept priming of itws own volition every 10 seconds with ign on, the rev needle danced like a nutter and there was no hint of a spark......

So either the 'new' one is fubared, or it's the wrong one and won't work :nenau

Strange I've only ever seen all those symptoms with a fecked motronic

Well, it got double weird after that. :blast

Took off the spare and put the 'old' one back on.........this was the one that Chad fitted about 2 years ago (but for various reasons has only got about 1000 miles on it :()

Plugs back in (after drying out all night)

Pushed the starter and burble burble burble, it started immediately

Revs sweetly, still in balance and idles nicely...no speedo flickering, sounds perfect (with no load on at least)

I ran out of time to take it out as I had to go pick up Rosie and the kids from Saxmundham, so I'll give it a go tomorrow......

I suspect though that it will be the same as it was a week ago, when it had the same bits in that it does now.

One thing I am going to try though is to use the 2-3 degrees of timing adjustment that is available using the HES mounting slots.....Today I put it back exactly where is was, but when I initially took the thing off, the allan bolts for the HES and the alternator tensioner were loose....in fact, when I took the cover off, the tensioner bolt itself fell out without being touched......
I doubt it will work, but it's worth a go :blast

I'm hoping I can conclude that the Motronic box is ok :nenau
