Happy days.

EzCan finally arrived.... fitted my Aux Front CREE LED Lights and my rear side lights and Brake Lights.

All works a treat. :thumb

(Took nearly a month to arrive from USA though)... :banghead:

Pics

Rear showing LED strips. Set at 10% on running side lights. 100% on Brake Lights... and Flashing 100% on hard deceleration from CANBUS signals on accelerometer. So under heavy engine braking the LEDS will flash to warn people behind I'm slowing rapidly, but without having to apply the brakes. Clever.

Front showing CREE 18W LED Auxiliary Lights. Set at 50% Brightness during Day time. 20% Brightness during Night time. 100% Brightness on Full Beam. When using front indicators the appropriate LED Auxiliary Light will go off completely during the indicators blink period. When the indicator stops blinking, the Auxiliary Light comes back on. Love it.

I am not sure that's legal - you might want to check it out.

"13.—(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), no vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which automatically emits a flashing light.

(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in respect of-

(a) a direction indicator;

(b) a headlamp fitted to an emergency vehicle;

© a warning beacon or special warning lamp;

(d) a lamp or illuminated sign fitted to a vehicle used for police purposes;

(e) a green warning lamp used as an anti-lock brake indicator; or

(f) lamps forming part of a traffic sign."

Very good point Mr B and you are probably correct if that is the 'letter of the law' but personally, and I have the same set-up as Warlord all be it my brake lights are situated on the top box, I would rather be seen by drivers/riders that are behind than shunted up the back. I'll take my chances if Mr Plod wants to have a word, but worst case scenario is I just lift the rear seat and unplug the rear lights.

Does the new gs not come with dynamic brake light that flashes with heavy braking. Surely if illegal it wouldn't be sold.

You can set the sensitivity of the deceleration part, its really very clever, so set at a low setting means it would only trigger on heavy deceleration engine braking. You can also set the speed at which it operates, so I've set it at 30kph (no mph option). This means the flashing brake light wont work at speeds below 30kph to avoid annoying people in slow moving traffic.

Emergency Brake Assist is already on this BMW which emits a rear brake light flashing sequence to alert other drivers.

This setup uses that same principle on deceleration. If it becomes a nuisance, or my mates are distracted by it all the time, I'll turn it off. Its very easy to do.

I'll see how I get on with it. As an Advanced Rider its my resposibility to check who's behind me and how close, and to use the brake lights to warn people, but a) the brake lights are small and easily lost in traffic (so now they are bigger) and b) cars don't watch out for engine braking and are on you quickly if they are dozing... this helps a little if my concentration is on more immediate forward focused issues?

More illegal is my front light Strobes which are activated on 3 quick presses of the Headlight Flasher. Don't know if I'll ever use it, but could be fun attracting your mates to your location in a busy car park :thumb

Hey its gadgets with a lot of tick box options... try it out, see if it works, turn it on, turn it off. No worries.

Exactly.

Some new cars do too. Might be covered by -
"© a warning beacon or special warning lamp"
Surely a brake light is a warning lamp.

I've put mine on the top box too. There are K series BMWs with high level brake lights on there too. If the lights behave the same as the main brake light I doubt many police would stop you. Even the flashing on heavy braking etc is seen on many cars and bikes now so I doubt that would persuade them to pull you over.
Maybe on the number plate, if Mr Plod was particularly pedantic, he/she might say they obscure the plate partially. (Sorry Warlord).
However I can imagine getting pulled for the strobe effect on three presses of flash to pass or horn but I wouldn't be doing that very often. Especially in the direction of Mr Plod as that would seem to be an invitation to get to know you better. :rolleyes:

Yeah my concern was the number plate. But they're stuck on, very cheap, so happy to rip them off if challenged by Law Enforcement. Simply unplug from CanBus at the roadside with no ill effects. So we shall see.

I have an image of you ripping them off and resticking them at the road side much to the annoyance of Mr Plod! :beerjug:

Either way like you and others I'd rather be seen and explain later than be clobbered by some half-wit in a car who's not paying attention. Extra lights will hopefully attract their attention resulting in a suitable braking action.

Ordered this today through twisted throttle shipped to a friend in USA - What's the best way to ship to UK avoiding import taxes? Presuming the package will be pretty negligible in weight.

It is fairly negligable in weight, but I have to say it does look like the wiring hub to an Improvised Explosive Device so explaining that one through Xray postal service might be tricky.

You may as well wrap the whole thing in the middle of a suitcase full of Cocaine and address it to Theresa May at your house for the same chance of getting it through customs quickly.

Import tax was only £38 anyways. Although it took them a bloody month to delivery it (minus the Cocaine).

I swear my box was a seat for a USPS employees backside while they played Poker for two weeks before someone realised it needed moving on.
