I have recently traded my GS for a 2018 K1600GT from a BMW dealer. When I removed the seat to fit a rear rack I noted that the bike has one of these Hex Ezcan things fitted. I’ve been reading up on them but have the following questions for the experts on here.

If I download the software would I be able to access the Hex or are they coded to the original user or password protected etc

How can I tell which Hex thing I have so I can download the right software (assuming I can as a new owner)?

I have no clue what the one on my bike is actually doing, I have traced one connection to a set of auxiliary lights, but there are two other connections going into the loom and one with a blank. Anyway of knowing what they do without a computer.

There is a green light flashing on it all the time even when the bike is switched off. Is this correct, would it not cause a draw on the battery?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

From what I remember from 3 years ago when I installed the hex on my GS if you connect the hex to your pc/mac you can see what the various channels have been configured to do which should help you. Again from what I remember there's no security involved to prevent you accessing the unit from your computer. There's more info here

Hi Both

With our February update of this year, we've since changed the blips of the ezCAN in sleep mode to no longer blip. The device still goes into sleep mode with a maximum draw of around 800 microamps, so nothing of concern in terms of battery draw. Best practice in general, would be to keep your bike on a trickle charger if it's going into a shed for the winter though, as basic electronics on the bike will also cause a draw that could drain the battery.

Regarding the ezCAN software, what littleade mentioned is correct, there are no restrictions to connecting to the ezCAN software, you'll just download it from our software page above and connect the ezCAN to the software for an update. Here you'll see the different channel configurations and can customise them should you wish to do so.

Remember to register the device to your name to activate support and warranty (if the unit is still in warranty) by navigating to the top right menu > about. In the about screen you can click on Change Registration details.

Kind regards
