I'm about to take delivery of a 2012 R1200R :D Some (possibly numpty) questions for you rufty tufty GS peeps:D :

1. Am I right in thinking that my 2012 R1200R is a hexhead, the same as the present (pre liquid cooled) R1200GS?

2. If yes, am I right in thinking that the rocker covers are the same for the R1200R and R1200GS?

3. Will rocker cover protectors for a 2012 R1200GS fit an 2012 R1200R?

4. If another yes, any recommendations for rocker cover protectors? I am undecided between the BMW plastic ones (about £90), the machine art X shaped ones (greater coverage than the BMW plastic jobs) - (about £120) and SW Motech crash bars (about £130). The Givi crash bars also cover the face of the rocker cover (as well as the top and bottom) but they are about £170. I've ruled out the BMW crash bars as they are well over £300

5. Anyone got any protectors for sale ? (I'll put a post in the wanted section as well)

Thanks Nutty for the reply and PM. I'm after some protectors this week ideally(rather than later in the month when you're taking your protectors off) but I see Robb has jumped in anyway.

Long shot but anyone got any Machine Art DOHC rocker cover protectors (same fit for any DOHC hexhead I've discovered tonight)?

Alternatively, SW Motech/Hepco & Becker/Givi crash bars to fit a 2012 R1200R ?

Thanks for that but I'm ideally after something with a bit more protection.

That's understandable - I've dumped my GS on both sides of my Touratech metal ones and they've held up fine.

If you wait a month or two there'll probably be plenty coming up on Ebay as folks trade their old bikes in for a new w/c... ;)

Mine also has TT head protectors. TBH they arent run in until its dropped over a couple of times on both sides. ;)

Wasn't there an issue at some stage with the Machine Art ones breaking too easily :nenau

I've got the WBM plastic protectors and Motech lower crash bars.

Both have worked very well over the years, if I had to choose one over the other I'd go for the bars :thumb2

When the Servo assisted brakes failed on my old one they did exactly what should have happened, they broke up but the cylinder head was unaffected.
