HG Cruise V's Master

I'm looking around for new kit.

I'm not impressed with my BMW Sys5 lid so counting them out.

Can't justify £500-£1,000 for Rukka jacket alone.

HG Gore-tex with 5 year warranty have two potential offerings in the Cruise and the Master range.

Anyone had experience of both? What are the main points of difference?

Who's had good or bad experience of either?

I found that the sleeves on the Cruise jacket were far too tight for my forearms - and I'm not built like Popeye.

The Master suits was 'loose cut'.

Don't forget that Rukka kit comes with a 5-yr warranty which they WILL honour.

Come to that, BMW kit with Fore-tex will also carry the 5-yr warranty on the Gore-tex bit.

Have a look for the Rukka Steel Jacket - £369. Spread the cost over the 5 year warranty on the jacket (not just the usual goretex guarantee) and it works out to be quite reasonable. I've had mine for 3 years and it's brilliant

I went through 2 master 4 jackets in 9 months, first let water into the waterproof pockets and wouldn't let it out, second split in the leather neck. Had it replaced with the cruise and not had a problem with that in the 2 years I've owned it.

got a voyager 11 gortex jacket ( forerunner of the cruise) and a master iv
The jackets are aimed at differnt riders though
THe cruise seems more rugged where as the master seems more restrained and refined. The storm collar on master is very thin but works well as a wind stopper where as the cruise/voyager one is padded and a lot warmer when off the bike. My voyager hasnt got ventalation zips on the arms where as the master has and I have noticed when it rains the master feel like it leaks but it is just where the water is seeping thougth the zip and making the gortex liner feel cold. But then when I am comuting I am only wearing a normal thin shirt under it and I have never arrived at the office and had to change shirts even after a hour and a half ride into the city in torental rain.

down side on the master is the water proof pockets being by your hips so restrict what you can place in them before they restrict your movement where as the voyager and the cruise have the water proof pockets on the chest. The leather collar part has split on My master in several places but I can't find the proof of purchase so the shop wont replace it (HG luton) Both are good jackets. Only real gripe I have is the belt and the zip to conect it the trousers are tighter than the jacket is so all though it fits perfect everywhere else pulls tight in a narrow band around My stomach.
On the positive side. Just spent 3 days at goodwood marshaling wearing the master iv and I was dry even after I rode down in it spent 3 days jumping over hay bales and then rode back in what was nearly constant rain. Was camping as well so the jacket never got chance to dry out and the worst it got was slightly damp where I had had the jacket open under My marshalls tabbard. Same went for the cruise trousers. kept Me dry and warm all weekend. I would have gone for the master trousers as I meleted a hole in the outer layer of My the voyager ones but the masters are not as loose a cut around the ankles and there was not way they were gong over the top of My off road boots. SO went for a set of cruise ones instead.

I bought an 'as new' Master jacket the the BMF for £70!
It's a brilliant jacket, ie. warm, waterproof and most importantly, not a 'twat jacket'.

Some of the others did have splits in the plastic collar, a problem mentioned here, I've rubbed silicon into the plastic to try and preven this.

Got mine for £40 the year before, and the trousers for £30. The only problem with it was the cracked leather on the collar, and the storm collar was missing.

Jackets

I used to have the Voyager which was replaced after 3 years+ with a Cruise jacket. The cruise did not really suit me in the end after a few months use, so i have just replaced the cruise with a master 4 jacket which so far touch wood has been excellent.

But as mentioned before they are totally differant in design. The cruise has no end of zips for summer ventilation, whilst the master 4 is less well ventilated but should be excellent for the year round use that i give my kit.

Have Master Jacket and thruusers.
Jacket is great, and the storm collar is excellent in the rain.
Sleeves are fairly baggy so you can wear a fleece jacket under it in winter and the Goretex cuffs are great for sliding gloves under and keeps water from geting in(Hein Gericke goretex X-trafit gloves are the best I've owned).

Trousers are ok. Great in the rain. They are very baggy fit with wide legs but they could do with belt loops as they don't stay up and the velcro waist adjusters are crap.

It is a bit hot in the very hot sumer days though.

Overall, it's an excellent suit for 11months of the year. When the sun starts melting the tarmac it doesn't ventilate enough.

If you have any gear, maybe wait to see if Hein Gericke do any deals.. They come along sometimes (I bought my gear with the "buy one, get next one half price" deal).

Finally, you won't go wring with the HG Tourag Goretex boots.
Very waterproof, good in all weathers and temperatures and sooo easy to get on and off.

Jacket

PS If you decided on going for a HG Cruise jacket, you could have my one which is going on e-bay this weekend. I got it at the end of last Nov, it is black and size 56 which suits me perfectly with a 44inch chest and i'm 6ft tall. Still have the liner, armour and neck protector and never been down the road.

As mentioned earlier, it did not suit me so have changed to a Master 4 jacket.

Got a master and had it for 2 years, used in some horrendous weather - totally waterproof, comfy and warm. Not too bad in hot weather if you open all the vents. Much plainer and less fussy than the Cruise but my mate has one and likes it. Cruise doesn't have the temperature sensitive lining.
