These 'Cafe Racers' are like all those identikit 'Bobbers' in the Harley world...

To most they are simply a passing fad, built by people who are jumping on the current bandwagon

The number of stock Airheads is diminishing rapidly, soon very few will be left, and all we'll have will be those daft 'custom' efforts

And so it goes...

Amen to that. Let's be brutally honest a large proportion of stock Airhead models really did catch all the branches when falling out the 'Ugly' tree (much like a lot of older Guzzis ) Chop the fuckers up I say. At least try and make something half reasonable looking out of 'em.

Surely it has always been this way. Fashions and tastes come and go. In the sixties/seventies it was long forked choppers with coffin tanks etc. Nineties – fat back wheels and billet. People jump on bandwagons and follow fashions in all things in life (houses and clothing in particular). Why should motorcycles be any different.

In reality there would have been an enormous amount of Airheads produced over the years. Just because we now have the internet and get to see the fruits of peoples labour (some good, some bad) more readily, that's hardly likely to mean that all Airheads are being chopped up and there will be none left.

For me, motorcycling is far more than just seeing yet another bland, hum drum factory produced yawn inducing bike. Just look at the 'Show us your GS' thread if you want to lose the will to live. In a world of homogenization and conformity I like to see people with creativity and enough passion to actively create/change something for (in their eyes) the better. People have always modified motorcycles to suit themselves and probably more so than any other vehicle type. Long may that continue!

Motorcycling used to have a large element of non-conformity and rebelliousness. About fun and excitement – Where the hell has that gone? Nowadays people seem to think putting bolting another pointless piece of cnc'd ally on their GS as the height of bike customisation.

There does seem to be a new breed of custom bike and rider developing. I for one find it refreshing. Custom biking seemed to go the way of just dressing up in silly paramilitary type gear painting a bike matt black and trying to look 'hard' (or alternatively a big bucks custom operation building an unrideable show bike). Something that gets a younger crowd into bikes and working on bikes and not just into some absurd, outdated image has to be a good thing IMO.

Personally I like to see people with passion enjoying themselves...Vive le difference!

well said that man ,each too there own I say no doubt there are some awful looking bikes out there but if the owner enjoys the ride well that's all that matters .
