I managed to get a set of Les's 55w HID 50 off eBay. (I'll be going back to Les to get some fogs when I have some spare cash). I just fitted them and wanted to share my experience and give some of you a laugh at my expense.

I got a bracket off Les, was a doodle to fit as i had removed the headlight unit and screen as I was changing the screen and fitting a sat nav bracket at the same time.

The headlamp was really easy to remove, just the 2 T30's at each side and manoeuvre it forwards after unplugging the instrument plug and the headlight unit power & parking light with is prized out.

I used a 25mm flat wood drill bit, this was easy enough, although I wished I had put the first one it in a vice instead of doing it on my bike lift (wooden top) and scaring myself as the bit stopped and spun around like a top with the drill attached.:blast

So far so good.
Feed through the wires and made the necessary connections. I wish my flipping fingers were not so fat, but managed it without too much trouble.

With the ballasts already mounted on the bracket and fitted, I made a dry run to connect it all up before securing the leads with cable ties to keep the job nice and tidy.

Piece of cake. Not very often i manage to do a job without encountering any sort of disaster (self made usually)

I I turn on the ignition, the low beam flashed, then went off. The high beam was fine.
I scratch my head and check the connections -OK
I remove the unit and check the connections to the bulb - OK
Connect it all up with same result

OK, So if i change over the ballasts I can eliminate that.
did that - Same

So if change the bulbs around, that might work. 1 might have been damaged in transit - same

So then I kick next doors cat, swear alot and make a cuppa.

What if i start the engine?

:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Why am I so f***** thick?

Anyway, the lights are amazing, can't wait to go and dazzle the shit out of some unsuspecting motorist. Nice one Les.

Anyway, the lights are amazing,

Was just about to do same and order some for fitting. Got as far as the payment screen when i thought id do a quick search on here for HID fitment etc.

The amount of hits i found detailing possible issues with MOTs etc put me off so i didnt bother. Not sure whther most of it was opinion and bullshit or plain facts.

Anyway, like i said i havent bothered (yet).

How much you pay for yours?

Actually thanks

Hi there - I`ve just bought some off Les and I appreciate your post.

I also suffer from f*cking stupidity (tried medication, its in the genes) and your notes will help!

You realise the clocks go forward in three weeks :hide

I wouldn't let the MOT put you off. It's a 5 minute job to plug the halogens back in and 5 mins to change it back.
It's a must have mod in my book. I don't do that many night miles, except for the Welsh & national Rallies and the odd RBR late finish/early start. My motive is so i don't get some twat saying he didn't see me.
I didn't get them that much cheaper than what Les charges, but i would happily pay the full price and can highly recommend them. They are easy to fit, I got it pretty much right straight off.

Mark H- If you can turn out such things of beauty as you do will fir these in your sleep. :D

Had HIDs fitted on bikes (GSA, GT) since 2006 and an MOT every year without a mention. As long as the beam pattern is ok and the adjustment correct no problems. Seem to be some issues about cars with HID needing light washers and suspension leveling, nether fitted to BMs 12/1300GTs or newer 1600s dont think it applies to bikes and never even mentiond when tested, other than "F**k that headlamps bright" by last tester.
Just get some of Les HIDs fitted and see the difference...

When I asked our local MOT tester about HIDs he said that so far as he is concerned, the brighter the better.

Les'sHID's

Fitted one to my 1200, fitted great havent even been out on it yet! still comming up. Don't worry about MOT's had them on my 1150 all they did was admired the headlight. No problem with Les's stuff, the bracket is great and very well made.

The geezer who did my MOT thought i had "really good bright bulbs fitted"

Passed no problems.

Bike Mot'd with hids fitted, garage weren't bothered, just a point, over a couple of years you will notice that they will burn the closest part of the reflector.:augie

Fitted a set of these myself and they are the dogs. Only problem I have is the main beam seems to take a while to "warm up" or maybe it is just badly adjusted. Anyone else had this problem?

They all do that from cold - can take several seconds.

E connects to A
G connects to C
B connects to F

Trim D off the loom, and solder H and I directly to the wires.
I connects to the Brown wire
H connects to the other one (can't remember the exact colour, either Yellow or White)

Keep hold of the plug which you trimmed off though (D) incase you ever decide to go back to stock, you can simple re-attach it to the loom.

Saw my mate on Friday night who works in a bike shop, I asked him to find out about any potential issues. His MOT tester says " We have not had anything through about HID's. I reckon every bike should have them".

I would just like to add my apprieciation to the HiD guru that is Les W.....:bow
I recently bought HiD headlights and FF50 modified spots, all Ballasts fitted to mount bracket and spots modied with 50W Hids also:thumb2....all 'cos I couldn't see where I was going down the dark bits......... Wow now having followed Les's instructions and an informative email or two.. the phrase "let there be light" seems appropriate.....after a second or two

Now what to do with the very yellow BMW fog lights....?

Just a note ... coat the ballasts with something (acf50 or similar) if under the front upper guard. They corrode very quickly when exposed!:rob

Or not bother and let the last three winters do their worst with nothing more than cosmetic effects to the ballast. Do you really look under the beak that much?

Can take 5K and less to start burning the reflector. I ended up with a HID bulb that had coloured itself pinkish from the reflector; light output was still white though.
