HID ballast noisy

one of the ballasts for my DE's makes an horrendous squealing noise when first powered up until the light gets to full brightness. At first I thought the servo had gone into overdrive and was about to explode, it really is loud.

anyone had anything similar, wondered if this was a sign of impending failure.
 
all the ones i have ever had have done it. I found it tends to dissapear after a while... that or im just ignoring it :)

ive done a quick look and some of the reasons are feasible one being that only a few have us have decent hearing left to hear the high frequency noise that some of the ahem... maturer... riders cant:aidan
 
yes ,they all do it to an extent, but like he says , 3 do it, and the other is noisier,

believe me mate, even my deaf old granny would hear this! I know what you mean about the normal high pitched whistle though... maybe we should have a section for the under 35s :D

its only supplying a DE, but will get hold of a spare for when/if it does fail :beerjug:
