HID ballast noisy

one of the ballasts for my DE's makes an horrendous squealing noise when first powered up until the light gets to full brightness. At first I thought the servo had gone into overdrive and was about to explode, it really is loud.

anyone had anything similar, wondered if this was a sign of impending failure.

ignition on, but engine not started, its definately the ballast, isolated it by disconnecting and reconnecting

run it till it dies then, an av a spare ready?

mine isnt loud, but then again , its under the tank

Make sure your cables are well & truly connected on the HT side...

all the ones i have ever had have done it. I found it tends to dissapear after a while... that or im just ignoring it

ive done a quick look and some of the reasons are feasible one being that only a few have us have decent hearing left to hear the high frequency noise that some of the ahem... maturer... riders cant

believe me mate, even my deaf old granny would hear this! I know what you mean about the normal high pitched whistle though... maybe we should have a section for the under 35s

its only supplying a DE, but will get hold of a spare for when/if it does fail
