Just wondering how a HID bulb fails - I have one that is failing intermittently - if you give the housing a shake and try turn it on again it sometimes works.

Is this symptomatic of a bulb failure or the wiring?

Thanks.

Theres no filament in them bud so i reckon its your wiring. Is the ballast ok?

Thanks - just wanted to be sure before messing around with it - I'd guess that the ballast is OK as I find that if I turn the plastic piece that the bulb fits into then the light will come on - I will check the connections in that - probably just too much freeplay.
Being careful with the voltage alright - keys out when I mess with it.

plastic peice that the bulb fits into?

What sort of HID bulb is this matey? the bulbs i supply are one peice and go straight onto the metal light casing.

Do you mean the plastic cover at the back of the headlight? which you click into place and has the bmw connector block going onto it?

If so its probably a loose terminal on the inside.

Most of the HID conversion simply get plugged into the existing wiring in that. Whip the cover off and you should find a loose connection.

Check your fuses. If they are loose (and they often are) then the lights will play up.

Check the two wires into the back of the bulb, they can rot away, specially the cheap Chinese ones, replaced loads of them for guys that have got there HiD's of flebay.

I have one HID on the bike alright but that's fine - it's the car I'm having trouble with and they're oem.
Took it out tonight and tightened up the contacts - looked a bit loose - but the problem is definitely in the wiring loom. Working again anyway - for now.

Les - your kit that I bought ages ago is still going strong - on a friends bike now :thumb2
