Hi guys,

Hope someone can help. Just started to fit a HID unit from HIDS4U to my 02 1150. Surprisingly I managed to get the lamp to work without blowing anything up, which is great. However, the bulb will not fit into the hole at the back of the light - its far to wide. Others have fitted HIDS4U units in the past with no problem so I just want to see if I'm missing something obvious before I start hassling the vendor.

Cheers

Timbo, just read your post again, are you saying the HID 'bulb' is to wide for the reflector?

I wish it were that easy. The bulb will not go through the hole the metal casing at the back of the light unit.

Ahh, responses passed in the ether.

The plastic cap is removed and the existing bulb is removed from the light unit. The new bulb doesn't fit through into the back of the reflector - its too wide...

It will but you think you will break it, the bulb actually scrapes the metal as it goes in, line it up exactly straight then slide it in, little bit of pressure (not a lot) :D

No, this is miles off fitting - I'll probably need to widen the hole by about 1mm, which is a huge change. I've tried the "gentle pressure" approach but to no avail.

Did they actually send you a H1 lamp fitting???

'Cos I've had two and no issues at all. Simple slides in and gets clipped into place.

Well, it says its an H1 on the plastic protective packaging it comes with but it doesn't seem to be the right size. If everyone thinks it should really fit straight in then they've sent me the wrong one I suspect...

fitted the HIDS4U to my 1150, I had to take a round file to increase the size of the hole the bulb slides into....didn't take much work to get it to fit....:D

And then there was light

Phew! with some twisting and pressing the bulb did eventually fit - obviously I was trying to do things too quickly - more haste, less speed.

Anyway, the results are fantastic. Both photos taken with the same setttings.
