Just installed an HID on my dip but now my fuel guage gives no reading. I popped the standard buld back in but no improvement.

Have i blown something with the HID or just coincidence.?

Anyone have any experience of this sort of thing before?

I would say that the HID itself has is not the culprit but something you've disturbed / damaged etc during installation

Check to see that you haven't accidentally knocked and disconnected the multipin connectors to the fuel pump controller (FPC) or got any water in it. Same for the connector underneath the dash, although my monies on the connector to the FPC if its only the fuel guage not working.

Perhaps you shouldn't have wired it into the fuel system :D

When I recently installed my HID set, I placed the ballast fairly close behind the rev-counter as that was most convenient. It seemed however to interfere with the rev counter in that respect that when starting the engine (during the first say 5 sec of idling) the rev counter needle would still point at "0" but vibrate violently. After that it would jump to where it should be and work just fine until next engine stop. It did that at every start.

If I understand correctly the HID will draw a lot of current during the first seconds when starting the lamp, this may cause a significant magnetic field. I have now place the ballast under the right side panel (away from the fuel pump controller and other electronic bits). But have not ridden since.

Might be worth a try to re-locate the ballast :nenau and see what happens.

Good luck! :beerjug:
