HID Ballast mounting plate.

Hi John

Great article, it cleared up a lot points for me. Will you still make ballast mounting plates of other peaple? If not will you supply me with the details of the two mounting hole which are above the oil cooler.
Cheers :beerjug: Raggie

Boys, boys,
Not sure of the calculations (o level physics was a long while ago!) but the resistor used was a 25watt 22 ohm. RS part number 157-566 and it works !! :clap

I've bought some HID's from ebay and having heard of some of the problems with the warning system I thought this may be the way to go. But, I've looked up the RS part it says it's 4.7ohm/150 w. Now I'm confused and not sure which resistor to buy.

BTW are you still making the brackets if needed?

Steve

Excellent article, helped persuade me to go for the switch - what an amazing difference !
The conversion was relatively easy, but my mounts for the ballasts are not the neatest; if you are still willing to make the brackets I'm up for one ...

CatchUp, you may have misread, RS157-566 is 25w 22ohms. I've just ordered 2 from their site.

Thanks, found the correct on now :o

Hi, I have a question for anyone with electronics knowledge...

I have fitted a HID conversion kit to my '06 1200GS, withABS. This was straighforward plug-and-play, no light warnings, no CANBUS errors, just lights that work, phenomenally

There is one small 'glitch' though that I would like to iron out: On tunring the ignition on, there is clearly a very short pulse to the low beam circuit, causing a very breif, yet intense, flash of the lights. Iwoul like ot try and stop this, because the very strange translation from Chinese in the instructions suggest that flasking the light os not oggd for bulb longevity. This may be a property of the ballast, but I was thinking along the lines of trying to filter or suppress this burst with a very basic RC filter. However, it is some 20 years since I last worked out something like this, so thought I would ask for help instead.... Any advice, anyone :nenau

Not sure if there is away around this, when fitted on the 1150 no problem as the it's the old fashion wire system, but with the Canbus I think you get a pulse of currant to check the systems, this fires the HID for that quick flash.
My only problem is if the battery is not topped up the HID can fail on the first start, run for a second then re-start and ok.
Optimate sorts it out.

Also i have on HID fitted, cause I havent a clur were the resistor goes, can anyone explaine and I may go for the two option. :thumb
