Some advice really.
I had a HID conversion fitted by a BMW dealer a while back and have noticed what looks like a burn on the reflector behind the bulb.
Has anyone else experienced this/anything to worry about ?

Thanks

To be honest I only noticed this week, I've had the HID's for over a year now, may of been there previous to them being fitted.
Thanks for your help.

My halogen started burning my reflector and the HID makes it worse. Once it starts having a black spot then this absorbs more heat and thus the charring spreads. Eventually the reflectors beam pattern will be affected and it'll fail the MoT. There are companies that will resurface them though and you can save a lot by baking the cluster to remove the reflector yourself.

If your HID was fitted by the dealer have they warrantied it and perhaps the damage it has caused?

Best,

S

(Phil - i'm with you re HID temps, especially considering most use 35W HID kits, but i think the temperature is not sufficiently lower so as to negate the effects of heat absorption into a matt black surface) on plastic)

I'm going to run it into Cannon next week and see what they say, not holding my breath.

How'd you get on?

Being in a similar situation i've been doing some digging -

The actual headlight cluster is supplied to BMW by CEV - http://www.ridewill.it/p/en/cev-f100461100-headlight-bmw-f800gs-front/50188/ - may save you a few bob over dealer prices should it come to it.

Also been looking at other option as these are now available so thinking of fabbing my own cluster or bastardising a second hand broken one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Headl...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ad096152c - either making a whole new setup or by squeezing into existing housing.

Best,

S

No joy at Cannon. It seems the HID burns at a lower temp, the bulb that did the damage was an aftermarket "white/blue bulb".
I've managed to tidy it up a fair bit and it went through the MOT.

Thanks for your help
