Ok any helpfull persion out there tell what I need from hids4u to turn my 1200 Adv headlight into a Startrek Phasor, main and dip.

Saves me ordering the worong stuff

H7 kit matey, read the thread properly :D :D :D

from the NN blurb
"Now you can buy a twin pack of Magnum horns - one with low tone, one with high tone. Slightly louder than a single Magnum."

I take it the word 'slightly' should be highlighted in some way as in "the sky is slightly above the sea"? [edited cos I'm dumb as bag of hammers today]

Well 3db could be classed as slightly, but to be honest I liked the idea of twin tone horns, gives them a slightly different sound. :D

On my ancient 1150 I have 6 lights. 4 of them are HID - the main beam, the high beam, 2 of the driving lights. The other 2 driving lights are 100W halogen.

The HID lights come on quickly and absolutely leave the halogen lights for dead . For the first time in 40 years riding I have enough lighting :clap

But tomorrow I pick up my new 1200 and it starts again :nenau

As anyone fitted the 12 ADV high beam?, tell me wear I can fit it please,. :thumb

the 12 ADV can comfortably fit at least 4 ballasts ... 2 ballasts under the beak and 2 ballasts between the instrument cluster and the screen. Have posted them before but if you need links, you can see the installation here:

Am still toying with the idea of making it 6 HIDs by adding HID driving lights as main beam add ons (the fog lights are dipped beam add ons) ... but now it gets tough working out to where to put the 5th and 6th ballasts.

Colebatch,, Thanks for the link/photo about your top ballasts,
I mounted one under the central screen bracket but will look again at fitting the second one like your photo shows??.

Another Option

Bit late if you have already converted but the easy answer is leave the existing lights alone and fit HID auxilliary light.

I fitted a pair of Touratech lamps to my 12GS. An HID on one side that works with main beam and a halogen on the the other that works with dip.

The halogen adds some extra illumination on dip and the HID with main beam is awesome. As, on the GS the dip stays on when main is selected it means that on clear roads I have four headlights with different beam patterns so the road coverage is great.

I have not found a big delay when the HID comes on although for a couple of seconds its a bit yellow and then turns to bright white. This is not an issue though as you still have the original main beam with instant ignition.

No mods to bike apart from adding a couple of wires to the main and dip feeds to power the relays.

Ballast location

I am guessing that you have fitted the headlight ballasts under the beak of the GSA, where do you then put the ballasts for the HID "fog" lights - there arent many places on a GSA12 to hide these 'lil critters !
