Very informative. Thinking of getting HID myself you make it sound easier than I thought.
The problem I have is the alarm is on top of air box. I have seen the ballast mounted under the beak but I am not sure how they would react to weather/vibes.
Another question is how long do the bulbs last?
I fitted the standard halogen Blue Vision bulbs and they didn't last very long, I was told that its the coating that makes them burn much hotter than std bulbs.
I presume the HID bulbs last much much longer as there is no filiment to burn out.

Hi finglonger,

Thanks for your comments........

Reading the Blurb, the Bulb is supposed to last the Lifetime of the Bike !!

Read it here........... http://www.nippynormans.com/Privacy.asp

The Instructions tell you to keep the kit out of the elements (I presume that'll mean not under the Beak.)

I am not into Electrics at all, but once I sorted my 'Up Cock' with the wire in the Cap, it went like clockwork.............:D

When I turned the key (no off switch for the lights) I was ready to see the bike 'Fry'...........Nope, just did what it said on the Tin!!

Well Pleased...........so far.

I did the main beam

with the new Touratech unit. Replaces the whole thing so you get a different beam pattern as well as the benefits of HID illumination.
Fitting takes about 2 hours, nothing technically difficult, just a couple of fiddly bits fitting the ballast bracket. This goes up in the frame behind the steering head, at first you think there's no way, but once you've sussed it it's neat and discreet. No drilling, cutting, modifying required.

If your bike has a 7.5 amp fuse this will blow as the unit powers up - happened on my mates 2003 bike when I fitted his. Didn't happen on my 2000 model, no idea what fuse I've got - it must be an inline jobbie as it's not in the fuse box under the seat. Anyway if you swap this for a 10 amp everything runs fine. Interestingly BWM don't seem to know what's right either, 2 identical Adventures in showroon, side by side, one with 7.5amp and the other with 10amp - go figure.

Highly recommended for greatly improved light spread and range over original main beam. Definitely value for money (£260 ish)

That link explains everything ta!:)

Also I made a mistake on the Blue Vision bulbs

The main beam one is still working (just went out to check).

The one that blew was the normal headlight as it was on all the time I was on the bike. If I recall it did state on the packaging that its not intended for constant use. It now has the original bulb that it had when new in 2001 back in.

I did try a 100w bulb :( ........(for a couple of min's) the headlight got VERY HOT!

Scared it would do some seriouse damage (being a projector type lamp).

I would be interested on how you get on with it over the next few weeks.

I have also made a mental note to seal the cap after I have got all the wires out of it.:D ;) :D
