Hi,

Just fitted Les's HID50 lights to both dip and main beam, and noticed tonight on the way home from work that there is a noticeable difference in the colour of the light between main and dip beams, with the main being white, but the dip being quite yellow.

I was wondering if anyone else with a similar mod had found the same thing?

If all is well with the electrics, then the bulbs must have a different kelvin rating to each other? Yellow tends to be 4,000k or less and white being at least 5-6,000k.

Different wattage ballasts (35 & 50w)?

Both are 50W ballasts, and both have 6000k bulbs. I'm guessing that if the electrics were wrong, the light just wouldn't work rather than produce a yellower light.

Later today I will swap the ballast connections to see if the brighter light swaps round.

One thing I do know is that I have to adjust the height of the dip beam, as it is too low.

Had this a couple of times and have even swapped the burners just in case, but still the same, I think now that it could be the lens, age of lens and if it's a little dirty inside, as the dip is bigger with the fish eye it seem to reflect different form the high beam which is just glass and reflector.
One 1150 which had this problem had been using high power bulbs and they had singed the inside as we had to strip the lens to remove a damaged melted part.

You can always have another burner to swap if you feel this would be the solution

Thanks for the replies.

Les, over the weekend I'll swap the burners over and see if that makes a difference. If the dip then becomes brighter than the main beam I'll discuss with you the option of swapping the burner.

One thing I would say is that the difference between the 2 is only evident because of how good the main beam is. The dip beam is still many times better than the original fitment, so thanks Les.

Is it worth swapping the ballasts over just to confirm if it's a bulb or ballast issue?
