hi to all; i have a quick question to put to the collective

i fitted some H3 spotlights to my bike last year - they are the ones shown below so you can see the lens type

as i dont particularly like the H4 HID kits, but would like a little more light, i am considering HIDifying (if thats even word) my spotlights so have a couple of questions

1. Is there any difference between car and bike HID kits? it is much more cost effective to buy a car kit with a pair of everything than two seperate bike kits

2. Are the lenses on the spotlights going to cope with the extra light or just refract it all over the place and not give me any real benefit given the cost and effort involved?

any other comments/suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated!

I bought a H4 car kit, thinking I was going to be able to make up kits for two bikes, unfortunately there is only one loom/relay so that was a non starter, good idea for HIDing a pair of spots though provided theres space in the shell for the gubbins.

bummer!

i take it they're not deep enough for the burner? they are quite small (thats mainly why i chose them)

roughly how big are the burners? i may get another set of spots as these were only cheap anyway, fitted them just to see if it would work more than anything.

some pictures on the hid50.com web site of lights to give you an idea, I stock all of them as standard lights or HiD'd

Thanks for the info, a good site there for anyone that hasnt had a look

liking the look of the Hella Micros, but i only want to run 35w HIDs to keep power consumption down as the Dakar cant handle heated grips on full and two 55w spots at the same time

Out of curiosity how much is a pair of the Micros pre-HID'd?

HID50 also do 35 watt HIDs - I have just fitted a pair to my OEM fogs on the 1200. I have also fitted a pair of Hella FF50 spots (also from HID50) but will try running these as standard Halogen firstas I don't like the delay on Hi beam you get with HID's. I have fitted 50 watt HIDs to Dip and Main beam already so I'm hoping thats enough. If not though, HID50 can upgrade the standard Hella's to HID either 35 or 50 watt.

Hella DEs

Hella DEs are 33w HID as standard. (Driving lights)
Money. Having watched Ebay for months, over a period of 1 year, I bought 2 off second hand 2 light kits for circa 200 pounds per set, and, when pound /Euro exchange rate was good, a kit (new) from Germany for Circa £300.

Hella DE foglights
Cannot think of why one would wish to put HIDs into these foglights. they are useless anyway, and will be become an even brighter useless, just blinding other road users even more and annoying them ditto.

The DE's they mean are Halogen and I convert them to HiD, when you say £200 a set is that each or a pair?

Thats not a bad price, mine are only a little more for a pair with the 35 watt Ultra Slim ballasts :thumb2

I'we fitted HID in Hella Micro De. Well, I took the H3 bulb out, put H3 HID (35W), made a hole through the back rubber boot and then connected them to the ballast. The result...AMAZING!!!!!
You can put also 55W because the magnezium housing can carry the extra heat without any problems.
