High Beach tea hut?

Does anyone know if this place is still there? I haven't been for about 10years!!!! So was thinking of a little bimble down there tomorrow afternoon. If it's still there does anyone want to meet up for a brew? I'll be leaving Braintree area around 12ish!

ok well to answer your question yes there are two tea huts. The first is adjoining the Kings Oak pub and really caters for the families etc, drinks, food and ices, can't remember if it has seats inside but does outside.
The second option is across the green by the public car park, it's more of a kiosk but does have some outside seating, very popular. The area is very popular with cyclists, runners, walkers and bikers and I'm led to believe popular for dogs!

A very good pub for food is the Duke of Wellington on Wellington Road next to the golf course, bit poncey but decent all the same.

Can't make it tomorrow but maybe some other time, I'm in Royston, Herts but know the area well as I lived in Enfield and often used the area for "leisure" activities with girlfriends many years ago.

Hahaha I know where your coming from Brian!! did the same thing, also I don't know if many of you know this, but there is one of those strange quirks of nature roads round there where everything seems to be going downhill and with car in neutral and handbrake off you would appear to roll UP the hill... Girls used to like it and you could feed them any old shite to make you look intelligent before the you know what started lol...

I ve only been to the little kiosk before so that's where I intend on going today, but nice to know its still open and well attended by bikers..

Yeah i think i saw something about the closure on tv some time ago, so wasn't sure if the council once again, got there way!!!!. Glad it appears they haven't!

Interesting fact about the first organised ride out oblertone, i didn't know that. Well we ended up going to Burnham on Crouch ( see thread in the East Anglia section)

I think you are all confusing your tea huts.

Yes there is a kiosk adjoining the Kings oak pub and one across the green. However the tea hut which is under threat of closure is the 'bikers, tea hut which is just off the Robin Hood roundabout going towards high beech. The Robin Hood roundabout is on the Epping new road between Woodford and the wake arms roundabout.

I used to go there a lot in the 90's. The tea hut has been run by the same family since it started and the council wanted to franchise it and charge punters £4.00 for a latte rather than the 50p for a cup of tea like it's always been.

There was a petition somewhere which I signed but I don't remember seeing any outcome.

Tea hut to stay in same family following campaign success

Bradley Melton's family have ran the tea hut for 84 years

The popular tea hut is to remain in family hands after a community campaign.

The City of London Corporation has announced that the Hill Wood hut, which was put out to tender in June, would continue to be run by Bradley Melton, whose family has run the business for 84 years.

The 33-year-old is the fourth generation of his family to manage the hut, which is popular with bikers, walkers and horse riders in High Beech.

A petition started by tea-hut regular Paul Morris calling for the hut to remain under its current ownership attracted 9,000 signatures and received backing from Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.

Now the corporation has confirmed Mr Melton has won the tender and has been tasked with developing the business.

Mr Melton said: “I am completely over the moon - there is no other way to describe it.

“Now is the time to sit down and decide what to do to move forward.

“We will be meeting with the City of London Superintendent this week to discuss future designs for the hut.

“I am so glad that it is staying in the family. Thank you everyone.”

Mr Morris said: “We are ecstatic. It has been a long battle
