We are always banging on about the reliability or not of the 1200GS. It's been around now for a few years any one done 50,000+ miles yet.

"marvellous thingys" need not reply unless it is constructive.

Is this a trick question , How many engines are you allowing per bike to rack up 50K ?

I did over 40,000 on my 2004 1200GS before selling it in 2006 (about 25 months).
The warranty work over the period was (as far as I can remember)
Final drive - leaking
Clutch - spline worn (my fault apparently )
Front cover - corrosion

It went through a set of rear brake pads every service initially before the pads were improved. Can't remember if the front pads were ever changed.
It was a bit thirsty for oil.
Tyres - always Tourance - usually 8k at the rear and 12k at the front.
Headlight bulbs - 6 or 7, includes dipped and full beam.
Crashed once when 2 weeks old - stupid woman (tautism?) ran into the side of me on a roundabout. Low speed, very light damage, she accepted responsibility (several witnesses so she had little choice) and I went to the lakes the next day.
Full service history at Motorrad Central.
Vario top-box which rarely, if ever, was taken off the bike. The top box never leaked or fell off, even though the bike was routinely power washed with the top-box fitted. Vario panniers used infrequently - I didn't like the left hand one as the liner bag really didn't fit properly. The "extra" spaces in the left hand one were handy for velcroing in first-aid kit, bottle of oil (see above), cargo straps, etc.

The first list sounds dramatic when I read it back but none of it ever caused me any problems nor detracted from my, huge, enjoyment of the bike.
I swapped it for an Adventure which is different but not necessarily better, or worse.

BM Boxers have always had gearbox and drivetrain problems but the engines were always bullet proof. K's and the older R engines will easily do 100k plus. Personally I think the 1200 engine has been taken as far as it can go and reliability problems are often down to faulty software running the engines too lean.

I was genuinely interested to see if any of the new generation boxers were proving as robust.

marvellous thingys see post 1

I know a few people with 75,000+ 1200s in California, no problems, still on original clutch, discs, gearboxes, final drive seals etc

I was talking to the a guy at San Jose BMW and he thinks that 1200 problems are down to inexperienced riders/low use.

56K

Just coming up to 56K on my 06 GSA.

have had a few issues with the final drive (replaced thrice)
Usual corrosion issues, engine bars engine front cover which have all been sorted under warranty.
Other than that it's a dream, running better the more miles it does

Mine has nearly done 50k.

I've had a couple of electrical gremlins but otherwise it has been pretty reliable. The only thing that has annoyed me are the brake disks that appear to be made of cheese!

I'm of the opinion that most problems are through excessive polishing and lack of use which in turn lets the oil seals dry out.
