High octane fuel

Ive tried on the GS (only had it a few weeks so not much to go on) and quite a few of my old bikes and never found any difference.
In theory though a higher octane fuel should make for a smoother running engine and the higher octane value means there will be less pre-ignition of the fuel vapour due to compression.
The biggest difference in engine performance I have found in relation to petrol is what garage you buy it from. The age of the fuel has more bearing than anything else.

I use the high octane fuel all the time.
I have not noticed any significant improvement in mileage or speed or responsiveness.
In fact it may well be a great big con by the oil companies.
Non of the above however will stop me using it.
After all it is a status thing
It is more expensive so therefore buying it sets me above the plebs. I will often point this out to the checkout lady if there's a long queue just who it is who's buying the good stuff.

I use it sometimes, and kid myself that I can notice the difference. Only a blind testing would tell for sure.
VW's FSi engine is specifically designed to run on high octane fuel.

I deliver high octane Shell Vpower,its 99 ron has engine cleaners built in,and the additive in it is what makes it different from normal PU50,i use it in my car and bike it gives better mpg and cleans the carbon deposits from the engine.This fuel was developed with ferrari and once you've used a couple of tankfuls you should notice an improvement.The Vpower diesel has proved pretty good too notably with Audi,who have won some endurance races with it........Gotta say though as good as VPOWER is it has'nt turned my Alfa into a 355 yet.....
