High Oil Level !!

I have had the bike two weeks now and delighted with it in every way, but I had noticed the oil level window appeared over full. Having done some 500 miles I finally got round to checking the exact situation this morning by draining off some oil. It turns out that it was 400ml above the max I hope I havent done any damage as they say too much is nearly as bad as too little What do you think?

Mine uses hardly any, but there again I ran it in by the book

Mine has been flashing up the low oil light, but the level checked out ok using the method in the rider's booklet.

I found that made a huge difference with a Triumph Sprint I had, lots of owners complained of high oil consumption, mine never needed any between services despite being ridden hard.
Glad to hear its not inevitable on a GS

I've had two that dont. Inevitably you will get riders who mistreat the bike, maybe thrashing the nuts off it to run it in like that american site suggests, and then come on here moaning of bad oil consumption, so you get a wrong impression.

How do you know it was 400 cc over filled, you haven't drained out all the oil and measured the contents..
When you measure out the correct amount of oil as per the manufacturers specs you'll find it "appears" over full when looking in the oil window, and it isn't.

Having been riding bikes since 1976 I can assure you I do know how to check oil levels as per manufacturers instructions. And yes the excess oil was drained into a graduated jug ,so 400ml is correct. Whats with the ?

What he is saying is that the level was correct before and it's now lower by 400ml

But he is wrong, its now perfect and bang on the top of the sight glass having been run up to temperature and with 400ml taken out
