High Oil Level !!

if anyone thinks 400cc is 'negligible'....

Remember, that's the only difference between last years mode and the wc!

ok, its water, shall we have a 'what water do you use in that'?

strange that cos my HD manual that came with my 2010 Dyna says very clearly to check oil on Jiffy stand.

Ahh but that's one of those new fangled Harleys with rubber engine mounts and all!

For my ancient sportster both the manual and the Clymer say oil should be checked with the bike upright. Personally, I wouldn't risk assuming doing it on the side stand makes no difference, although I accept it may not.

What fun we all have airing these momentous issues! :natter

I bet you could get to at least 6 pages on a "what water" topic
perrier, highland spring, still or sparkling? - my multistroodle got a recall for having the wrong type of anti freeze in it

So here's what you do. Check the level with the bike upright.
Then check it with the bike on the side stand. File a mark in the dip stick where the level is when it's on the side stand so you can check it forever more on the side stand.

Is that whats known as
NOT ROCKET SCIENCE?

I'm confused.

On another thread an owner described a problem with a pointy screw/nut thingy. It was suggested to him that he use a file and make the screw/nut thing unpointy.

The owner however suggested that he shouldn't have to do this and his bike as sold was not fit for purpose and even dangerous.

If taking a file to a BWM means its not fit for purpose then surely taking a file to Hardlyworthitson also means its not fit for purpose too. I think this should be brought up with HD Customer Service. You may even be able to claim for new pants if you get dribbles on your own.:augie

more problems

 When I ride my gs whilst using my zumo I noticed that when the speedo says 60mph the sat nav says 59mph. The speedo and zumo are always one mph out of sync.
Do you think I should replace my speedo or do you think it would be cheaper to send the zumo back to Garmin?
Any help would be appreciated, but in the meantime I need to drain a few mls of oil from the bike as it is showing a level near to the top of the sight glass-or need I not worry?:blast

drain some oil from the engine and put it in the sat nav to speed it up a bit.

two birds - one stone :thumb2

What, and miss out on the tricky contortion which looks a bit iffy to any bystanders, the oil dribbling onto my trousers and something to gently moan about... are you mad?!

Seriously, thanks for a good suggestion! :beerjug:

No, your GS speedo is one of the finest pieces of scientifically developed instrumentation (CERN used it to check the speed of the sub-atomic particles in their Large Hadron Collider). It will be absolutely correct to at least 8 places of decimal - leave that alone. You need to write to the Pentagon and ask them to correct the time signature stamps on their Global Positioning Satellites. There's a "Contact us" request form on their website - sometimes it takes them days to nudge the time stamps to the correct values - it helps them if you can keep them advised of the differences between speedo and GPS...:type

As to the oil problem, don't take out the whole overfill in one go - it will dislocate the trundle-rod, or at least misalign the flanger... Get a spectrum-microscope so that you can accurately measure each particle you remove but don't do it if it's windy cos the particles will blow away...
