Time for a larger screen - so I bought the NN high & wide. Tried to fit it last night and no success. The plastic 'bobbins' that sit either side of the holes at each side of the screen don't snap together so that they sit flush against the screen like they do with the OEM screen. Looks like the holes are the wrong shape/size. have contacted Norm for a solution but wondered if anyone else had run into the same problem?

I bought one but sent it back
1. didn't like the fit
2. Didn't like the look

Ended up going for a Wunderlik Ergo screen - very happy.

I've just swapped my '09 12GS for a '10. The '09 had a large thin rubber washer between the two bobbins the '10 does'nt. I had an MRA Vario on the '09 which I've just fitted (5 mins ago) to the '10. Gap between bobbins noticed.........not good.
So I,being Mr Organised for a change, had a look in my little box of assorted rubber washers,£6.99 from Halfords. Found two the right size and job's a good 'un. They look as if they've grown there.
Rubber o-rings off Harley footpegs are the right size too, everybody's got some of them kicking 'round in the garage, right?
Also, get some double sided tape. The two nuts for the two front Torx screws are best stuck to your finger when positioning them, otherwise (sods law) they'll fall out and disappear into the motor somewhere. :)

By the way,I'm a dickhead. I spent AGES trying to get those effing bobbins back in when I changed the screen 1st time. Then I realised they're stamped L and R :blast
Welcome to UKGSer.:)

Guys - thanks for the feedback (to my first post on the site too - awwwww). Spoke to the Normster yesterday and will be sending the screen back tomorrow. Have to say my confidence is low at present given lack of acknowledgement/awareness of any similar issues. Suggestions of sending back some of the fittings too so they can assess - errr, I think not. Fingers crossed I get a resolution though. Will it be a case of getting what you pay for???

Just fitted a nippys "tallest widest" screen to mine yesterday,I fitted it with a set of Nippys winglets, and just modified the square locator holes with a square file with no problems but also had to enlarge the 2 front screen pivot fixing holes. Ive done it and its ok but it should fit without any modifications it looks ok ,not pretty but neithers the Gs really, but im hoping it improves the buffeting on the motorways , once it stops raining ill find out. I also fitted lower and upper sw crash bars and although they look the part im not really impressed , i fitted them to stop any damage to the heads and tank but looking at them i think theres a chance the heads could touch down and the upper bars are so close to the tank a good knock would probably have it hitting the tank and damaging it itself.

Gazza - thanks, useful feedback. I'm loathed to go hacking around with the holes in case I damage the screen. Then again lugging it to the post office and all that grief isn't appealing either! I'm looking at getting some engine bars - look cool and I can imagine do the job if you're unlucky enough to need them.

Well managed a run out today with Nippys tallest widest screen and what a load of old toss it turned out to be. The bufferting wasnt reduced that much and with the top edge of the screen falling right on my eye line its a bit un nerving filtering while looking through the screen which distorts your view, so ive put the original back on . It might be worth just getting your money back.

I got a Cee Baileys higher screen onto my 12GS recently. I'm 6'0" tall & its a marked improvement, beats the stock one hands down.

i have the tallest and widest screen and found it a massive improvement, i have it on the most upright setting also. i can easily ride around at 100mph with the visor open.

but the comment about the lower mounting holes being the wrong shape isnt new. I told them about this well over a year ago inc pics of the fault, good to see they took notice!

got NN high and wide here, had similar problems fitting it, its never gone on quite right, still not so, does not fit as well as stock screen. The grooves on the lugs just don't sit right, it think the square holes have been put on at the wrong angle.

That said it with it fitted, its fine, screen is stable to movement at 3 figures on speedo :augie

I am 6ft5, and noticed a huge improvement in wind buffeting, can sit at 80-90 all day long now with much reduced wind noise. That combined with tank bag and its much better! (don't ask me why but tank bag helps too!)

Trusting (read gullible) fool that I am I'm giving NN another chance to get it right. Concerned by Gazza's comments though and spidey sense is tingling as NN wanted me to send them the screen mounting parts for reference (surely their supplier has these to make the screens???!!!). Caveat is that he can get me a 'new' replacement before the end of this week though (rather than my faulty one hacked around and returned) or a refund requested. Let's see!

On a 09 GS i had to open the front holes to accept the rubber insets..
I applied a dab of vaseline to hold the "O" rings against the carriers.

Question Should those black plastic carriers be angled up or down??

Fitted the same screen with the tobinators kit, but had to tickle the "bobbin" holes with a Dremel. I enlarged them slightly, and then made them rounder so the "bobbins" mated together properly and could rotate slightly. Fits like a dream. There was a mention of having to do the rounding off in the fitting instructions on Nippy's site I later discovered...

I found rounding the holes slightly so the "bobbins" can rotate slightly cured the problem of the lugs/grooves not mating properly.

Having shot references, taken dimensions and marked it all up into a nice PDF for NN and emailed the lot on Saturday - not a single word of response! Based on poor service and 0 confidence in getting a result on this, I have requested a refund and I'll live with the stock screen whilst I find a cost effective alternative. Disappointing really as I have always been quite impressed with NN in the past.

SCREEN

I had the same problem and asked my neighbour who is good at fitting most things for help it took all day and still doesn't look right.
It makes no difference with the turbulence, poor purchase. I'm going to try a Adventurer screen anyone out there done this it would be nice to hear peoples views as they are £310 from Balderson

Just battling for the refund now - seems to be taking a while (feigns surprise). Givi Airflow now on order should arrive this week. Buying on the reccomendation of other GSer's.

i have only ordered once from nippy and it took weeks for the items to arrive and then it was incomplete. due to the time factor i asked for a refund on the remaining items that also took ages... in the end i told them if i didnt get a refund that day i would do it through the CC company and put it into dispute, i had the refund that afternoon.

ordered once and never again.
