Day 1
We decided to leave a day early as the weather was bonnie. We couldn’t book anything before we left for the night, but decided to leave and make it up on the way. We stopped off at Tesco’s in Dingwall and brought a cheap tent, then strapped it to the already very loaded bike. We headed off towards Kinlochewe.
The rain found us just after Dingwall in full force. We had a very picturesque travel to Kinlochewe. Once we were there we were wet and in need of food. A very formal and polite Kinlochewe hotel helpful manageress and staff told us we would have to wait half and hour for a table to be free, so we chilled out in their lounge with a much needed cappuccino or two. While we were waiting we talked about where we were going to go on from there. Food was great probably even better if you like fish and alcohol lol. A bit posh and more expensive than your run of mill pub grub.
We decided that we would head up to Gairloch and stay at the sands campsite. What twit builds a cattle grid on a bloody corner dark wet, can hardly see….font went then the back, but we came out the other side right way up just lol…. Right the great job of fixing up a cheapo Tesco tent in the cold, dark and wet … joy who’s idea was this lark anyway.
Day 2
The midgy war ….
We woke up around 6am ish light drizzle and soggy everything sardiened into a 2 man tent …. “2 Chinese dwarfs more like “ well it stood up to the rain. Had one or two wee blood sucking bastard about, so I thought I’d take a trip to the toilet. Well I arrived safely Relieved clean and refreshed I headed back The troops had rallied in there millions and were getting in to formation to attack on mass. Enter the tosser secret weapon,, a midgy net. Now closely resembling the elephant man I returned to the villa.
It took considerable less time to collapse the midget dwarf pod.
.
Breakfast well being totally self sufficient we had no food but means to cook it 6:45 in
Gairloch a ghost town
Wee shop opened at 7:30 and a adventure café at 9:30 a must for blueberry muffins btw
Next off to Applecross 1st stop Redpoint great single track road down to the view point not much traffic, weather had cleared up by this point so well worth the visit.
Back then to Kinlochewe to top up on fuel £1.12 ouch!!!! At least the guy in the station was smiling. Turning right and taking the north costal route to Applecross, maybe this was a bad idea it was numpty day out lost count on the time opposing traffic sat and stared each other out, think there is no way I am reversing (because they couldn’t reverse to save their lives!!) Took us a bit longer than expected.
For all our sins we where shown a miracle the sun had come out whatever next. A busy Applecross as to be expected. Must recommend the Wigwams/wishbones perfect base for a few days.
We found great pleasure in watching the convoys of porter houses come and go. One bloke with a 13” boat in tow decided to gouge out the side of the flower tunnel and change the name of his ship to titanic…
Note how its sitting on trailer lol
Day 3
Raise the Titanic
Woke up to rain/drizzle and some campers had played musical tents.
The captain was patching his ship with bailer twine and what ever else he found at the “shop” have you been to this place ? The Monty python of shops think open all hours with no stock :$ it soon became talk of most new campers. We soon discovered the new mobile shop few miles down the road near the village hall job done.
Out came the sun as we took a wee run to Monty’s house “the bbc reality TV show house” signed the guest book took some pics then we where interrupted by the royal navy I guess they take midgy war more serious. A trip to the walled garden and a few tourist pic then home for dinner.
We found a waterfall lol
More soon of Skye
