Yeah, i can`t see the hill hold release being based on the ABS wheel sensors, that`d mean fighting the calipers hold on the discs until movement was detected which is surely not very sympathetic mechanically or the best way to go about it, sensing when the lever is being released via the clutch switch (plus sensing increased engine speed/load?) seems the most effective way to design it.
Mine works fine, you can even tell the difference when holding on various gradients - barely noticeable release when level but much more engine speed/power required when on a steep incline. It does pay to wait at the `bite point` for a second or so until you feel the release to avoid any embarassing stalling potential, though.
