Last year during the 65th I came across a sign pointing toward "Hillman". Having read a little about the Normandy landings it was not one I recognised, so I took the bike up through a housing estate and out on a road, following the signs for "hillman bunker".

The place is actually large bunker complex. One right by the road with a carpark behind and the remainder in the fields eitehr side of the lane.

If you have not been, its brilliant. Its free too! There is a little museum which explains the importance of the site, the manner in which is was captured. But best of all, you can walk around many of the bunkers.

Well worth a visit to the site if your in the region.

Just remember there is a lot more to see than just the big bunker by the road, that is obvious. The rest is behind it in the fields.

lots to see

Yes, there was a big camp of re-enactors there, with lots of vehicles to look at. A priest, a sherman and a fair few half tracks amoungst others.

It is one site I will be going back too, as I know the organisation were planning to open more of the bunkers as museums, as they get more items to display.

Given it was free to get in and walk about and the people there were really friendly, it was one of my top places to see on my trip.

Also the battle and events to take it, are quite something too. Brave, brave lads they were.

Was here last week, came across it by accident, truly amazing.they have started to excavate trenches between the bunkers and also are building new toilet facilities.
