Hilltop Eu4

The good thing about forums is that they foster lively, intelligent debate and this helps understanding. Unfortunately on this topic, nobody has ever been able to properly explain, even to those who have a basic knowledge of ecu tuning, what Hilltop actually does – not even the proprietor himself. No wonder there are doubts about what (if anything) he does.

But if you want your bike ragged on a dyno for no reason other than a graph showing an impossible power increase and something (maybe) done to your ecu that you don’t understand, that’s fine. Especially if you believe everything you read on internet forums.

In response to Engineers post : well thats bolliocks isn't it, if that was the case we would still be getting 16 miles to the gallon in 3 litre 1940s American cars with 45hp

It would be great to see a comparison between Marc's bolt on tuning thingy and Geoff's re-map.

Dyno figues pre-tune and post tune, plus ridability.

Geoff, thank you for your flexibility. I thought that 2 may drop out due to the poor weather, so I flexed in another 2 and of course all 7 turned up! Sorry for keeping you back from getting on with the other things you wanted to do later.
What a very interesting and considerate group of people. There was a lot of exchange of information and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The rider/pillion with the most difficult journey was given some priority and everyone else was happy to chat and generally have a good time. There is a bit of hanging around, but with good company, that passed quickly.

I will admit I was a little sceptical beforehand, but the before and after graphs were astounding. My hope was that the troughs in the torque and power curves, which I'd read about elsewhere, would be filled in, giving a smoother power delivery. On paper that was clearly demonstrated but we all know the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
On the journey home:
the vibration through the foot pegs and hand grips was almost absent.
The bike behaved in a much more spritely manner and felt like everything had I moved up an engine mode.
I tried to change from 5th to 6th a few times because I had acceleration in 6th that made me think I was in 5th.
Pickup was faster.
Slower riding round a town was smoother.
Fuel consumption was better, but I will let you know later how much it improved.

If you tell me I'm seeing what I hoped to see, then it's obvious you haven't tried a Hilltop session or you wouldn't say anything so daft.

More dates coming up in Feb Mar and Apr. PM me to let me know if your interested so you can get the same group discount.

Thats what I found on my 2014 GSA, are you riding an E4?

I'm there on Tuesday:D

I'm on a 2014 GSA. There was someone there today with 150 miles on a new Triple Black. He might recount his experience.

I am Glad to read good response for once! So £250/£300 is well spent then! I Shall be interested in and around end of March/April for my tuning.

Cheers guys. Was nice to meet you all. Thanks for giving me-n-er an earlier slot.
Okay so 150 miles on the clock Euro4 engine. ?
The before dyno chart was lumpy as hell ( to be expected ) mainly as a result of the horrendous fuelling - after was nice and smooth, loads more torque and power more importantly fuelling spot on.
On the road vibes were gone, smooth power delivery and free revving.
Geoff was sympathetic to it being a new engine and has done a great job.
This is the second bike of mine that he's done and I'll be doing the same to every bike I own - to ensure it's correctly fuelled and running as efficiently as possible.
John, thanks for organising the day.
Geoff, thanks for excellent service and stories.
Cheers

Bodgineer (that's his new name, btw ;))will be seething at all this positivity!:JB

Love it....:bounce1

It's all sounding very good so far, especially the comments re the improved smoothness. :clap

I've noticed that my E4 T/B has vibes in the mirrors which non of my previous LC's ever had.

Perhaps this would be fixed with a Geoff job?

R1200GSAPilot, thank you for organising it. A bunch of good folk and yes, a lot of information sharing. Geoff, a top bloke who knows his stuff.

On the tuning itself - there are racers for whom an increase in BHP and Torque values means more speed and acceleration. For people who like to ride long distances (like me and some of the folks who I met today), it is more to do with the smoothness of power delivery right through the range.

Coming out of Hilltop services, with a 30mph limit just beyond the high street - for the first time, 2st gear, 30mph, cruise control on (yeah, I do that, following slow but flowing traffic) - and I was amazed at the smooth power delivery. No surging at all. Absolutely consistent revvs.

Sprightly behaviour - the LC has always had a hidden hooligan inside it - and with the tuning, and with the GSAP, it brings out a bit more of the hooligan within it. There was a definite increase in power and torque values - but that is not what interests me. I wanted a better behaved bike and that is what I have now.

As R1200GSAPilot says - try it out for yourselves. If you have £300 allocated for this - go get it done. If you don't have £300 right now, and want to get it done - go save in your piggy. If you don't want to get it done - even then that is fine. Only if you are a daftineer, will you go all over the place with silly arguments without knowing a shite about it or experiencing it yourself.

I also have a new set of plugs (NGK LMAR9AI-8). I am sure replacing them will make things better - but more on that once I have replaced them.

Mr Engineer

Your response please to all those very pleased people who traveled a long way, spent their hard earned money and 'risked' their very expensive pride and joy who are according to you obveously wrong!

My hands were tingling on the ride there. They weren't on the way back. It was the first thing I noticed as I rode away from Hilltop - vibe free handle bars.
