Hit Air Jackets

Hi all,

I've been riding for the past year or so in a 'Hit-Air' jacket, brought from Bullet Motorcycles in London. These jackets are connected via a curly wotsit to the bike, so that if you fall off / get separated / get pushed over 'for a larf', a CO2 canister fires et viola, instant air-bag. Don't laugh - it's the only way my wife will allow me on a bike.....

Anyway, it's never been particularly waterproof and the build quality isn't great, though it'll prolly last another year (btw, it looks pretty normal..). Has anyone had any experience with these jackets? The company I got mine off seems to have gone rather quiet and I'm looking for some advice for a replacement. One option is to get a decent jacket and then get the hit-air 'over-vest', which will probably make me look like a member of the RNLI

And yes, if I ever do any off-roading, I'll disconnect first! I don't want to drop the bike at 2mph then roll off down the hill

I know that Dainese were experimenting with this type of jacket a few years ago, so they're probably available.

As an alternative, have you tried persuading the missus that body armour (in the jacket might be a better option, especially if it is iin a well made jacket.

With all these things the fit and comfort all go towards the protection of the rider where clothing is involved.

having used self inflating lifejackets, and LSJs (military version) in work, i'd say that the trigger system and co2 canister are not likely to be able to fully inflate the air chamber before you hit the ground if you fall off. personally i'd do what the others say, and go for a well known brand and some armour. if the wife insists on extra protection, get something like the daines bionic vest. i have one of these for motocross. very comfy, non restrictive, and gives you confidence when you wear it..
