I loaded uo the bike Thursday afternoon and was ready to go travelling for a few days and tick some photo rally points off the list. The plans were to head north from Wexford up to Dublin then make my way across to Sligo. The first 90 mins was pretty much solid motorways, nothing exciting until I got to the midlands and things started to look a little better.

The downpours were super heavy but passed quickly and were generally followed by some sunshine. The temps stayed above 20 degrees and hit 25 at one point so not a bad days riding at all. I headed for a place called Strandhill in Sligo, I had been there some years back and remembered it well. I wasn't long about setting up the tent only to realise I left my dam mattress at home. What an absolute bummer! It was going to be a long night  but at least I had some hot food in the belly.

On the road Saturday morning for 9am, the first port of call was to a camping shop to get an air mattress. Best €20 I ever spent . The plan was to head south a little then west into Mayo and further south down into Galway. The scenery in this part of Ireland is the best, the N59 is amazing and worth a look.

I found myself in a small eco campsite on the Galway/ Clare border on Saturday night, a quirky little place to lay the head and get out of the rain. The heavens opened by Saturday evening and it was coming in heavy. I was tucked away under the awning with some noodles on the go.

Sunday was a damp ole start but the scenery across The Burren was epic. I never spent much time in that particular part of the country so some new places to be seen and some amazing fresh water to be tasted. The photo doesn't show it but the hole in the ground has a running stream through it.IMG_8203.jpeg

All in, it was a beautiful few days away. Great to clear the head and a get few kilometres on the bike. The new bike was fantastic (African Twin Adventure Sport 25 model), very happy with the performance and the bigger fuel tank makes all the difference.

There’s a tendency to stick to the coast, but exploring the small lanes around the Burren is well worth the time. The N67 & R480 and also the road that goes down towards Fanore from the N67. Incredible history and a very special landscape.

My Dad was raised in a small village in Co Sligo. His Dad was the local Garda. Although I’ve never lived there, it’s very easy to like the place.

I know it, my OH went to school at nearby Banada and hails from the other side of Tubbercurry
She's there this week

Been a couple of times to Ireland riding a bike out there to drop off for a client. Didn't have much time to explore as I was on the Dublin side.
Maybe I should revisit with our lass for a proper look round.
