I suppose there are no guarantees but I fixed one 1,000 miles ago and it has been absolutely fine...hasn't lost any pressure so I'll be running it until it wears out. However, the hole was central and cause by a nice neat nail. I used the "goopy string" fix but have subsequently invested in a "Stop and Go" kit (little mushroom shaped plugs) which seems a neater solution.

depends where it is and how big

Eggzakkerly.

Most if not all of the repair kits tell you its a temp repair, even the AA/RAC do when they use them , but in fact, they nearly always last the life of the tyre perfectly safely...the disclaimers are just arse covering lawyer speak

I'd have no hesitation in treating the rat tails I use for repairs as permanent, depending on, as D6 says, where the hole is etc

I've only had two fail on all the repairs I've done in Morocco, both on TKCs where the puncture was near the wedge of a side block so the flexing of the tyre opened them up...and we do 2 or three repairs per trip using the rattails.

Check it religiously for a week, then forget about it :thumb2

it always happens to me

I seem to get a puncture when i drive out of the showroom :augie happened after 1000 miles tho on my latest GSA, 2 punctures both professionally repaired, its done 6000 miles now with no probs.

yep, i've got two mushrooms in my current rear tyre and they'll stay there 'till it gets replaced.... :thumb

I was one of the successes; did the Tinehir loop (off-road track), then several hundred miles throughout Morocco, followed by a few more thousand miles commuting to work.
TBH, I had forgotten about the repair until I replaced the tyre when it wore out.

Puncture repairs

If you take the wheel to a reputable repairer thay will fix it only IF it is OK to do so and then you can run it until it is worn out; that was my experience; Unless you have done a few repairs yourself this is not the time to learn how!

If its in the middle you're laughing. The rats tails work, but like others, I've now got one of those plug-and-go things, yet to be tested in anger.

Following advice from here, I've used these as permanent repairs and not suffered any failures to date.

I had a nail go into my rear tyre (anakee) just off the centre line. The tyre had about 5k miles on it. I used the string type plug to repair it. The tyre was changed at 12.5k miles (yes I ride like your granny:augie) and it still had about 1k left on it.

Properly installed, in the right place, the strings will give you the remainder of the tire life with no problems :thumb2

Tyre repaired and back on steed, god its horrible looking at a beek with a wheel out!! Guy seemed confident of repair so orft we jolly well go. Thanks for advise everypeeps!!
At the risk of opening an oil type thread, has anyone experience of the various fluids etc that you can put in to a tyre that supposedly fix punctures on the go??
