hole on side of engine, weep of coolant???

Mine weep'd and was down to porous internal engine casings, needed a new engine :(

So where will the fluid end up then ?...............inside the casing to corrode and leak I suppose. ( no change there then )

Hi Shinyface.
I'll spell it out seeing as you are new to this place.:beerjug: (welcome BTW)
He's taking the piss, almost the same as my and most other comments.
TBH, why anyone puts a porous plug in the telltale beggars belief.

Ta for the welcome flatdog, but I`ve been on here since July 2005 ! recent new computer problems, so I understand the banter but not the leaking fekin engine.....this is my 13th Bmw. You would think I would have lowered my expectations by now....

I had this coolant leakage problem. Was told by BMW that it would probably fix itself!!!!!
I,m an engineer and suspected that this would not be the case.
True to form I set off on a ride through France, Spain and Portugal. After nearly 3000 miles of constant dribbling
I got back home without the coolant level dropping by much but the bike is now booked in for a pump replacement.
Water pumps do not self heal, and should not leak on a bike that costs 14k
I sent this picture to BMW while away. Lol.

Clearly not much of an engineer if you believed that BMW told you the leak would fix itself !

To be fair he didn't agree it would, but had to go along with their findings as the bike is at their mercy whilst in warranty

Turns out he was correct - being an engineer & all that

Don't be too harsh on him :)

Both my LCs (GS and now GSA) have weeped coolant from the hole.

Then both have stopped after a few thousand miles.

Suppose some do this spontaneously... A bit like the spontaneous erection I get every time I read another HillTop thread. :D

R1200 GS TE 2014 October Build 4500K on clock

This thread has prompted me to check my 'hole' and sure enough I see a thin light blue streak running away from said hole. My coolant levels are around half way on the expansion tank.
My problem... I'm off to Scotland (2k worth of fun) this Saturday and now I'm fucking worrying if this piece of precision German blancmange is going to make it there and back again!

Worth the risk? It will have to wait as I'm not canceling my trip. If the fucker blows up it's down to BMW. I love my bike, but these little moments make me wonder why I lumped out 15K+ for a bike that is still 'Work In Progress'.... GGRRRRRRRRRR

I wouldn't worry about it beemerbob. As I said I carried on and did close to 3k miles in high temperatures. The dribbling coolant continued but only very small amounts. I have not heard of total seal failures resulting in large losses of coolant. Apparently the seals are ceramic and tend to weep a little. As you rightly say, a bike costing this much cash should not do this. I wish BMW would have the balls to sort this out and tell us customers the exact problem.
