Left a bit, down a bit....no too far..
My left hand heated grip packed up a few weeks ago - right hand one works OK. I decided to leave things alone until the next service (due in the next couple of weeks).

Chilly morning yesterday, so I decided to keep at least one hand warm. Then noticed that the left one was working again. 10 minutes later I noticed my left hand was a bit hot. A couple of minutes later my left hand was bloody hot (through a glove!). So pull over and take my hand off the bar to see a small hole bubbling away nicely in the grip with smoke rising from it.

I turned the heated grip switch off and gave it a couple of minutes to cool down. The grip has resealed with a 1 cm "scar" running horizontally across the middle.

I'll have to get a new grip as well as the heated bit underneath at the next service. I'm not sure I'm up to changing it around myself.

Anyone else experienced this?

Psyko.

Pah !!! heated grips are for girls !!! :mmmm :eyesdown :idea ....I wish I had some to complain about :(

The grip and the heated part are all one unit, if doing it yourself, dont pull the wiring out, cut the old grip off and attach your new wiring to it and pull it thru, :)

Had the same thing happen to me a while back. Took it into SLM who fitted a new heating element. I asked if this was a common fault and they said 'yes, it's due to the extra wear & tear the left grip gets when you pull your bike onto its stand'.

Since then, when I pull my bike onto its stand, I pull the clutch lever in and then pull on the left side of the bar. This way you're protecting the element.
Hope this helps.

So, are you saying that I can't fit new rubbers to my heated grips, and I've got to buy the whole heated grip?

You're probably right Maitre Gecko but this morning when I arrived at Anderlect the Thermometer was reading -1 and I could still use my hands properly after an hour at 130KMH.

I don't mind being called a girlie if it means I can still have some warmth in my hands....

Also fyi I fitted mine only a couple of years ago and it cost 24O euros. An effing lot of money for something Hein Gericke will sell you for 50euros. Only downer being they aren't so well integrated to the bike and you can see the extra wires...
