Gardai are gonna take 40 mins to go and check!! Good solid locks (more than 1 on front and back doors) on doors and windows are better than alarms.

Fit locks on all your internal doors, particularly downs stairs, and lock them at night and when you go out. That way if they do get in they cannot move from room to room easily.

cheers lads, getting wife to close the door let alone lock it is hard enough

but ya i lock the poch door all the time,

just forund front and back door the botton hinges are not even fitted so better sort that and maybe fit heavier duty locks and sliding bolts

Neighbor of mine had an extra bill of two doors/frames coz she had done that, they used a crobar to pop the internal doors.

As CP said, an evil dog with a taste for blood or neighbours who give a feck.

well have the dogs and they dont like strangers

If possible train the dogs not to eat what they find lying on the ground - not easy i know - cause I was told a trick of the "cousins" is to target a house and if there's a dog, toss some poisened meat over the gate the day before the planned break in. Lovely people.

ya tried and failed,

that is onld trick, lads now are also bringing a bitch in heat with them, slowly drive down road and dogs go running after it

On the house alarm thing, it needs professional fitting if you're looking for an insurance discount for it.

Camera wise I've got a Swann DVR with 2 IR cameras which I picked up on special offer in Maplins last year. Professional CCTV merchants would probably laugh at it, but it does all I need and you can view the cameras on your android/iphone if you're so inclined. They don't seem to stock the one I have any more, but this is kind of similar;

Alarm only works AFTER they get in. It's all about perimeter security!

Extra and obvious hardware on doors..... don't forget the hinge side. Feck all point having four locks but only two hinges held on with 25mm screws!!!!

Floodlights, use linked stand alone PIRs to give full coverage of each other so no-one can sneak up to one and cover it. Same with cameras. PIR's can also be setup with a beep alarm so you know when someone's approaching the house. Does no harm to leave a few dog bowls somewhere obvious outside too.

Clear (kill) zones...... if there's no cover about, it's 20 times harder to get in unnoticed.

Standard line security systems are a waste of money...... the lines can be cut. Maintained line systems are fine for companies who write the cost off against tax. There are plenty of modern SIM-based systems about that offer VFM and tamper proof operation.

I can also point you in the direction of some fantastic biometric access systems, including one that takes a retinal scan, a voice sample, and will weigh you in and out of the building so no-one can take out anything they didn't come in with :D

ya i think just get own working right,

maybe a camera set up thats hooked up to the sensor lights so comes on when lights are activated ro something.,

really got get out and fix the blown bulbs etc and door hinges

I have always though a PIR sensor connected to light inside the house was a good idea. Perhaps the bathroom light, so movement outside will turn a light on inside. It might make the burglar think there is someone moving around inside. Never tried it though.

Perhaps if the alarm is going off at the same time they might decide it's too risky.

If your going to spend money on an alarm get one that is monitored by a company who call the police when it goes off before they call you or a KH.

Policy is that the police do not attend audible only alarms, if you don't pay for it to be monitored and it goes off nothing will happen. Your neighbour may call the police and if they do they will be told that unless they have seen anything sus (cars, people, windows open etc) then no one will be attending.

This is the Gards. Policy is to have another cup of tea, whatever happens
