I have a nice surround sound unit that doesn’t have HDMI. The only cables coming from the TV (in the wall) are HDMI. The surround sound unit does have an optical connection as well as traditional RCA/Phone sockets.

Has anyone got a suggestion of how I can get this to work? I was looking at a Sonos cable that is Optical>HDMI Female, but wasn’t sure whether it was proprietary.

You could try one of these... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extractor-...ds=hdmi+optical+adapter&qid=1687906281&sr=8-4

I can't vouch for the quality but you should get 5.1 output to your amp.

If you're looking for better sound quality, you'll probably need to upgrade to a newer amp with HDMI that handles Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD formats, and DTS HD and that's before we get into the
realms of Dolby Vision 4K or Dolby Atmos sound.

Thanks. That looks promising. The unit is quite old, but still sounds decent from what I remember. One of the members on here was selling a lovely Sony unit that would have been a perfect upgrade but alas it was too far away!
