Just wondered if anyone has made their own pannier frames for either soft or hard bags ? (for 1200gs) Im thinking of making some of my own and would be grateful for any tips or pics of yours:thumb

I made some for an 1150 to support soft panniers so they wouldn't rub on the 'zorst or dangle into the wheel.

I used steel tube (about 20mm diameter) and a pipe-bender to make two square loops and brazed struts to them that located with allen bolts into the threaded holes in the rear subframe. A further strut in the bottom corner connected to the footrests

All I can say was they worked really well but were a hell of a job to make especially as there is no room for errors in the location of the struts as they have to perfectly match the holes in the frame.

I made them for fun really and was pleased with the result but couldn't face repeating the excercise on the 1200!

Bottom line is I'd buy something off ebay unless you really like metalwork!
