Honda CT125 Hunter Cub

Micky I take it you feel the YSS springs are stronger than stock? Or do they offer a heavy duty version? I'd like heavier springs for both the shocks and forks actually.
Dunno Clifton, but those that fit them swear by them. Some uTube videos on them, I'll try and dig one out :thumby:
:beerjug:

edit .... ol' Warro has a pillion on board!

Thanks Micky. I heard them say it bottomed out over bumps 2-up but we don't know their combined weight. I may look up TSS and contact them about how their spring rate compares to stock

JIS screwdrivers ordered today, thanks @Micky .

I'm getting used to the gearbox, the basics are fine, Neutral at the top, and 4 down. Todays learning is how you can go from 4th to Neutral when stationary (great it doesnt let you do this whilst moving !).

I was thinking about putting heated grips on the CT125, but reconsidering the faff of filing down the throttle tube I might order some heated gloves as If I buy another wiring harness (£16) I can use them on my ADV bike as well. Whilst the ADV bike has heated grips they arent the hottest and when its below 5 degrees my hands suffer. I was stood in Grin Low car park, Buxton toilets last weekend warming my hands under the hand dryer and I'm trying to get some Rallymoto Icebreaker routes done on the ADV over the next few weekends so this will undoubtedly help.

Yes it's a good job you can't go from 4th to neutral when moving. My problem is when coming to a roundabout or junction, in traffic I have to assess wether its going to be a stop situation and just stay in a higher gear, stop, tap tap through 4th and in to neutral .... or come down a gear, maybe two and keep moving as the junction or roundabout opens up. Many's the time I've had to stop and I'm left floundering looking for 1st with all the traffic gone :blast

Being an ex 'bike copper you'd think it would be easy :D

I've put Oxford heated grips on mine, not really a problem, the plastic throttle body is easy to do. They're very good but don't get the later ones with the micro switch and led on the left rubber grip. A cinch to wire up but operating that micro switch, encased in rubber, with a soggy leather glove and a cold and wrinkled thumb, going over Rannock Moor in horizontal sleet is nigh on impossible :rob

Not sure about the black nose job but overall it looks good. Have you had a chance to extend the o.e.m 40min limitation?

No I’m not sure about the nose, thought it might look good but now I see it in reality maybe not.
Not ridden it yet but watch this space.

Tyre spoons ordered, 2* motion pro levers, and 1* DRC 19mm ring spanner and tyre lever (that will save adding a bit of weight if I can remove my existing 19mm spanner). I'll carry a spare tube but really not looking forward to my first flat !

Went out today in South Nottingham when the football had just kicked out, the whole of this side of town was gridlocked but I loved just carving through it on the CT125.

I do find myself shuffling off the back of the seat inadvertently, so this looks like a great mod 👍.
Yes same here, that’s why I removed the handle thing on the rack, found myself bumping into it, imagine hitting a pot hole or going over something and smacking the base of you spine on it. Painful!

Ordered one of these today from Amazon to fit in the oem bracket (delivered via Amazon US). It looks simple enough to fit using existing wiring connectors in the headlight. £35, although reduced to £15 by applying for an Amazon credit card and getting a £20 discount.

One of the first things I fitted :thumby: very handy. Can charge my 'phone whilst it's in the small roll bag over the headlight, or in the Kriega on the centre rack.

From several reports on hondatrail125.com it does seem there are different headlight bucket wiring layouts depending on country of intended use ie US, Oz, or Thailand, if you are looking for a switched supply that is. Hope you have the right combination there

Because of the above I opted for a plain ‘ole cigarette lighter receptacle wired direct to the battery with a ciggy lighter/usb female plug for powering my phone and topping up the 5V tyre pump etc without putting a small but constant drain on the battery over time

The above site is mainly inhabited by Yanks but the odd Yorkie pops up with some interesting ride reports from time to time …

What fabulous looking suspension kit (y) . Looks like you can adjust rear ride height with those ? Also love the OPMID speedo.

Are there any particular aims with the suspension ?

Yes, you can alter the ride height a certain amount :thumby:

I'm an inveterate tinkerer and farkler, my motorcycle is my hobby, sport, pastime, leisure and pleasure. I always fit aftermarket suspension and exhausts and anything else that I deem required :D BUT I'll not just fit anything 'because' .... It must look good and do as good a job as the original, if not better. Take the aftermarket alloy chainguards for the F800GS and the G650Xcountry .... I wouldn't fit them because they looked crap and didn't work as good as the original:blast

The YSS suspension is beautifully made, every bit as good as Öhlins (and I've had several pairs over the years) the machining is wonderful :thumby:
Now to see if they work :aidan

The standard suspension on the CT125 is OK but bottoms out on harsh bumps. I always said if I wanted any more suspension units for another 'bike I'd go see Baz at HyperPro in Holland .... he does a fabulous job.
A mate at Barnsley has just fitted Öhlins to his CT125 Hunter Cub (came off the boat after mine. (£1,200) The YSS comes in at £700 (front and rear) delivered from Japan. That'll do nicely :thumby:

His bike hasn't reached its first service yet, mine has 3,500 miles now on the Opmid :D

Had the last item for my toolkit delivered today (a drc pro 19mm combined wrench and tyre lever).

What am I missing ? I'm hoping that tube size is roughly correct too. I've never changed a tube as always been on tubeless.

Spot the J.I.S. screwdriver along with motion pro tyre levers and hopefully all the spanners I will need.
