A mate is having trouble with a 1985 VF500, and has asked if I know what this component is....its part of the wiring loom, looks a bit like a fuse and neither of us have a clue.
I've gone through the parts fiche at CMSNL.com and can't see anything like it, so over to you guys, any ideas?

if for an alarm/immobiliser , it may well be on just connectors and not soldered in.
what alarm is fitted ? datatool alarms , veto's ec , can be bypassed in the box so you don't have to strip the loom out.
look for a 5.5mm hole in the bodywork .

Little LED diode’s like that are sold as charging indicators. The early Tenere’s reg recs used to ail and the first thing the owners knew was a flat battery. This type of gadget glows amber at tickover, green during normal riding, red if reg rec failing.

My mate hasn't mentioned an alarm/immobiliser, but if there is one, it could be the source of the fault. It was running fine, cut out, wouldn't re-start, waited ages for the AA who never arrived, then it started and ran fine to get him home.
Next day, started OK, went for a short run, cut out again and now won't fire. So an intermittent immobiliser fault could be the issue,
This thing has never been to light up, hence the confusion on our part.
Thanks for the replies and I'll feed this back to the proud (and frustrated) owner of an otherwise lovely VF500
