Honda WN7 just announced

As long as you don't want to travel more than 40 miles away from home so you can get back without a recharge;; from the lights i bet it's impressive.

Yet it will charge from 20 to 80% in 30 minutes whilst you have a coffee at Starbucks

They claim "average range" to be 87 so let's call it 80.
From 100% charge after driving around 60 miles in a little over an hour you pull up to a charging station and wait 1/2 an hour for it to charge up from 20% to 80% in order to be able to drive 48 miles when it's down to 20% again.
If it had at least 3 times the battery capacity that could be recharged from 20% to 100% in 1/2 hour I could see it working.

The local dealer brought in Kawasaki's battery Ninja and while some were curious not a single person showed a bit of interest to buy the thing. After over a year Kawasaki took it back and credited them.

Hmm just like the car I sat in on a garage forecourt, waiting an hour and a half to get from 20-80%

Slight flaw, *bucks don't do ev charging last time I looked, so your going to have to leave the thing somewhere, and walk!

And it's pretty demoralizing watching people put 60 litres of petrol or diesel in there car and get 400+ miles from it and be in and out in 10 minutes, when you know in 80 miles time your going to be paying through the nose, for overpriced electrons, and stewed beans lol

Agreed it won’t sell well in its current state. But they quote 20-80% charge times as you generally shouldn’t charge up above 80/90% on a regular basis or let it drop much below 20% to preserve battery life .

These WN7s will flop in the UK and even more so in the USA.Two nations that live in the past and generally sneer at change .
But I can see them being all the rage this summer in places like the Côte d’Azur where you’d only need to charge it twice a week .
I think it looks great but it really needs at least 120 real world mile range to be viable at that price .

The local dealer where i bought my SX from had one in that was stuck to the floor; now if it had been one of the fantastic 650's with a small supercharger and perhaps Ohlins and Brembo running gear they would'nt have been able to stock enough,; small light bike with plenty of power and exotic handling. The 650 twins at the Isle of man always go well. :beerjug:

Um maybe "sneer at change that's just for the sake of change which isn't ready yet." would be more accurate.

But I agree they'll work for some people in limited situations. Great for a 20 mile commute or puttering around town. The thing about EV range (especially for motorcycles) is it drops like a stone as speed increases. That "average 87 mile range" is from 100% to 0%. Staying within 80% to 20% the claim is only 52 miles. Riding at 75 mph the 52 mile range drops to 35 miles.

Current day automotive designers are to automotive aesthetics what architects were to buildings in the 60's and 70's i.e. fucking useless
Are these the same designers that brought us these enormous 4x4s/SUVs/trucks that are an essential part of the school run?

No wonder the uk is fucked when bike theft is welcomed !
People lumbered with battery bikes can use the insurance payout to buy one that will do more than 100 yards before needing a refill.

The range is aimed at commuters, but its not a commuter bike is it.
The BMW CE 04 is aimed at commuters and has similar range and price.

You would still need a petrol bike in the garage for weekends, so its a bit pointless.
