After a fair few months, possibly years, of soul searching and thinking, my current ownership of this Honda XRV750 Africa Twin is going to end.

I bought this 1992 RD04 model brand new on the 8th of March 1994.
I bought it from an official Honda dealer, the now defunct The Bike Shop (Faversham) Ltd in, funnily enough, Faversham, Kent.
However, this one was an unofficial import.
The original service book is still with the bike with my name and then address logged in the front.
I located it and bought it for a second time in November 2014 having developed a soft spot for the model. (I owned another from ‘99 to ‘03)

When I got it it was looking a bit tired so I ended up having it stripped back to a bare frame, which was powder coated, and built back up with a myriad of new parts. There are lots of receipts including the one for the brand new set of spokes and Excel rims from Rugged Roads.

I still have the original rims which had succumbed to the dreaded aluminium rot, but I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. There are also a few more bits to go with the bike that I’m yet to get from storage. I’ll add photos and descriptions later. (They may already be in another post further down when you’re reading this).

The bike is not a minter. I would describe it as good condition with proof that it’s been used. In my opinion the engine cases are the tattiest parts.

Mileage is under 72,000 km which translates to 44,640 miles or there abouts.
There are two keys.
The bike is booked in for an MOT on Thursday the 9th of April, again I’ll update the thread when that has been done. The bike passed its last inspection 2 years ago and has only done about 10 miles since.

My price, assuming a successful visit to the MOT station, is £4500.
The bike is in Whitstable, Kent. The registration document is in my name at my current address.

I’ll add the pictures that I took a couple of days ago. I also have a short video of the bike running if that helps. I can send that to you if DM me your email address.

Lovely, always liked them. I can quite imagine that it did take an awful lot of soul searching to put it on the market. GLWS

When I said get the bits from storage it wasn’t as an elaborate mission as I may have made it sound. The loft and the garage.

To go with the bike is the original non functional Honda Trip Master. I’m working order these can be seen on eBay for between £450 and £500.
The mounting nuts and bolts are present.

Next we have the Givi Wingrack that I had fitted from new along with one of the 3 Givi boxes in ‘period colours’.
The box is an E45 with 1 key, a top mounted luggage rack. The elastic restraining strap is there but broken.
There are no mounting bolts with it.

Another potential gem?? The original DID wheel rims.

Saleable…probably…

The original top fairing/nose cone. I managed to buy a new old stock item in colour from David Silver Spares but again, I couldn’t bring my self to throw it away.
Repairable????
Saleable…probably.

Assorted bits that are with the bike.
Usable????
Trashable…probably.

Last of all but with photographic evidence, a couple of new spokes from the wheel rebuild.

That’s it. I’d like the whole lot to go together as a package.
£4500 all in.

As before, DM me your email address for the running bike video or with your questions.

Thank you. Yeah, it’s not an easy decision but to use an old cliche…it needs to be ridden and enjoyed.

These original AT's were such a "together" design that Honda should keep in mind these days... The original PD style big trailies were much sharper that what they've become...

That looks a lot different to when I had it (“a bit tired” is very polite 😄). I’m half tempted to buy it back. GLWS.

Good day to you sir. I was wondering if you were still on here.

Half tempted is a good start….keep wanting, and wanting.
It would be a nice addition to the bike’s story if it came back to you??

I've had three Honda Africa twin in my time, RD04,RD07,RD07a. I love them
IMHO the RD04 was and is the best version
I wish I'd kept mine.
Alas I've just sunk my bike funds into a Yamaha xt500
But
GOOD luck with the sale
I miss my rd04 ( below)

That looks really nice 👍🏻 are they a lot lighter/easier to move about than a 1150GSA? (Think it’s an age thing 😳😬)

I’d say yes, they are. The second Africa Twin that I owned from ‘99 to ‘03 was followed by an R1150GS Adventure.
A long time ago now but the BM definitely felt heavier and was bigger.
